Q: Testicular Torsion

Hi,

can anyone please help regarding this issue? Some one we know has got this problem and has had one testicle removed. The doctor claims it shouldnt effect the sex life but I have never heard of such a thing before.

What I want to know is that:
- does it affect your sex life?
- does the person go thru any sort of depression or anything? I would think someone would feel werid without a part of them especially something important
- what precautions should one take so that it doesnt happen to the other one?
- does anyone here know someone who has gone thru this? Any comments?

Please reply soon as we do need to give support but are shocked ourselves regarding this matter . Please advise.

Thanks

*well, if he had to ahve a testicle removed it probably would a little bit, but nothing major.

*depends on the person; I would think some if not many would.

*just be careful and make prequent "inspections". If you notice pain, doubt let it go, go right to the mergency room.

Torsion Survivor
Sorry to hear!! I thank God I was one who was diagnosed early and had a surgery to fix it. I'm still healing now since January and am trying to get back 2 working out, dancing, and potentially masturbating again. I'm just soo nervous to right now. But I pray you all find comfort. You should be fine and maybe he can get surgery 2 assure the other one wont tort, although they prob did that when they removed the other one.

testicular tosion
I am one of unfortunate ones to have had the problem but fortunate enough to have saved the testicle. I actually just had surgery on 9/5/08 around 7 AM. I was in agony Thursday night and thought I had a hernia or something. I was in the ER for sometime before I was diagnosed with the torsion. While waiting for the Oncologist to arrive for surgery one of the nurses took it upon himself to try to untwist the testicle. I personally think that's what saved it. Shortly after him doing his thing the pain had subsided and the swelling gone down. By the time the oncologist got there everything looked normal. I still went through surgery just to be safe it was about one hour and I had both sides done. I do not want to go through that again. I was given Percocet for pain but have only take two pills. I have also been up walking around. Everyone is different though. The surgeon didn't think I had torsion because I was talking around and not screaming in pain. He was proved wrong after the ultrasound. I can not have any form of sexual pleasure for at least 3 weeks. No loss there since I don't have anyone in my life. I get to have the switches taken out later this week Not looking forward to that since it looks like the skin has started to grow over the stitching. I am out of work for 1 week (we don't get sick time where I am) then light duty for 2-3 weeks. Overall the surgery wasn't that bad and I am healing rather fast. It is not fun to go through this and after experiencing the pain would not want any male to go through this either.

I also got mine fixed... I went to the hospital after severe pain and some nausea. THe pain however wasn't that bad, although the testicle was swollen. So... the doctor thought it was just an infection, prescribed me an antibiotic and send me for an ultrasound... the next day. After the ultrasound everything was clear: minimal blood flow. I was lucky the twisting wasnt very bad... I had a surgery, almost 30-32 hours after it all started, the tesicle was saved and the other one fixed. I am 25, this condition however happens more often to teenagers: men do not be ashamed of going to the doc for a check up!!! Many people have had this.

>How to prevent it from happening again
I doubt it could happen again, seeing as it would be quite difficult to do it with only one testicle. I think you're safe from having it happen again.
