If you are on a blood thinner before you are pregnant and then become pregnant, you will need to come off of the pill form, or coumadin or warfarin. You still, in all honesty risk losing your child, and coming off the pill form will still run you the risk of a clot developing, as estrogen promotes clotting, and that is why birth control and pregnancy can be risk factors. The doctor however, should put you on low dose blood thinner shots, like a lovenox, or heparin, that can be given through your stomach. Yes, you have to give them to yourself, and you will bruise in your stomach, but these shots will help keep your risk of clotting down, and it will not effect your baby, as this form of medicine does not pass through the placenta. Just know that coumadin, or warfarin, will cause birth defects in your child if you do not come off of it.
