My daughter has muscular dystrophy..She is 32 years old and is wheelchair dependent. We were hit in my car on her side of the car toward the front hood. Although it was a low speed hit she began to cry
and had very bad abdominal pain, she was wearing her seatbelt. The emt's took her to the hospital...She is taking coumadin due to a pe she had a few years back and the fear was internal bleeding. They did a cat scan and said it showed nothing. She has continued to be in pain and has been very sick to her stomach and has eaten very little since the wreck.

...She went to see a gastro doctor who did the endoscope and said again there was nothing. Because she continued in pain she went back to him and now he says she has an abdominal hernia but that it does not relate to the accident. I question that due to her very weak muscular system and the seatbelt area.
He says there is nothing that can be done and gave her meds for the upset stomach.

He says it will resolve itself. I question that also....As her condition continues to get worse and the wreck is a month ago.

I have searched online and can't get a straight answer to anything relating to an abdominal hernia.

Some items says it will only get worse and will require surgery...Others say nothing .....And others say it can turn into a medical emergency.

Help please from anyone who has knowledge of this and do keep in mind that she has very weak muscles over her entire body. I beleive the seatbeat pushed on her already weak muscles and caused this problem because she was fine until the wreck.
We are in the houston, texas area and would like any advice or names of doctors who could help.

The gastro doctor she saw said "no test" to prove it is a hernia...But I read
there is....Something about drinking a liquid and then an x-ray that would show the problem..

Also read several other problems are "misdiagnoised" as hernia...

We are both concerned about this due to her already weakened medical condition.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Bt dawgh

Yeah, the test is a Barium swallow followed by an X- Ray. The Barium sticks to spots that could have problems and make things easier to see on an X- Ray. Request it. Talk to the doctor and see if it could be 1) from an enlarged liver/stomach which could cause the problems you describe. (i know because i myself have an enlarged liver with stomach pains, possible hiatle [sp?] hernia, etc). Get or request an ultrasound of the Abdominal area to check, that way you can see not only if something is wrong with her insides.

Also, i see that the seatbelt possbily could have pushed against her intestines, causing them to press against something else or be moved to an uncomfortable position.

I had an acciden't when i was little, hit by someone else in a truck with my family. Though i wasn't diagnosed with anything wrong then I get pains in my back, around the upper part from my spine where it's been moved some. It's ok, but when i sit weird i feel it. So saying, you never know what could happen from an accident, even a small one.
