Q: Paxil And Effexor

Hi.
I've been on paxil for over a year now, at the maximum dose and recently my psychiatrist put me on 75mg of effexor, a relatively low doseage, I believe, to 'give me more energy'. I'm just wondering, is it safe to take effexor and paxil at the same time? I notice that i'm losing weight and feeling nauseous/shaky often. The nausea decreased after I moved my morning dose of paxil to the afternoon so I wasn't taking it at the same time as the effexor, but it's still there.
Has anyone taken both these drugs concurrently before? Does it help? Should I reduce my doseage of paxil/switch to effexor? Will the side-effects get worse? What about seratonin syndrome- i've heard of it, but I don't know much about it.
If you read this and reply, thanks.

Hi,

i have never taken two forms of ssri drugs together, but rather stopped one and started the new one the following day.

If I were you I would go to your gp a.S.A.P and explain your situation - just to be on the safe side.

Let us know how you get on,
take care.

I have an appointment with my gp on the 23rd, but I don't think she'll be much help. She's kind of out of her league- or that's the impression I get.

Trying to balance the doseages out, but still nauseous. Find that i'm never hungry, living on coffee and cigarettes. But, I haven't cut myself, so I guess that's good.

Still want to though...

Active User, very eHealthy
I Dont Think U Should Take Two Together
I read somewhere online taking the two will make you become very addictive to the medis and have really hard time getting off them one day.

Hi. Lol effexor isn't an ssri. Don't worry about being on more than one med! Paxil's a good ssri, and effexor will be helping it. Effexor does the same job but on 3 chemicals. Not just one. Also, your dose is all related to your weight. I am 68kg and have gone up to 600mg. I was fine, so don't fret. And paxil isn't addictive! Ugh, I hate it when people say that. The ssri's have a discontinuation syndrome, so you get horrible side effects when u get off the med. It doesn't mean it's addictive, because i've been on 3 ssri's before and they haven't been addictive!
