Q: Difficulty Urinating And Muscle Spasms

I am 55 years young and I have herniated discs in my l4-l5-s1. I injured myself when I was 29 years old. I was all set to have back surgery in the year of 1999, when I had a heart attack. My cardiologist does not feel that back surgery will help me. I can't get back surgery while I am taking blood thinners, and he refuses to take me off of them.

Well anyway, I now have problems urinating. I have blood coming out and I have a difficulty urinating. It takes me sometimes 15 minutes or more to just relief my bladder. My back specialist said that it is all related to my back problem.

I now have severe muscle spasms throughout my body, especially my legs. At first I thought it was because I was dehydrated, so I drank alot of water, juice and even tonic water. I found out that the nerves that are pinched by my discs are causing me to have them. Is there anyone else out there with these problems.

I also want to tell you that I have a pharmacy of sort. Listen to what I have to take everyday of my life. Well I see a back specialist, I also see a cardiologist, and my last doctor to teach me to be sane, is a psychiatrist (this is recommended by the federal government, who I am employed by the dod).

Here goes:-----back = oxycontin (100 mg/2x/day); percocet (5/325 mg/4x/day); chlorzoxazan (500mg/2 tab/3x/day); zantac (150 mg/1 tab/2x/day); compazine (10mg 1 tab/2x/day)-----heart = plavix (75mg/1 tab/1x/day);atenolo(50mg/1 tab/1x/day); lovastatin (40mg/1 tab/1x/day)-----psychiatry= effexor xr 9150mg/2 tab/1x/day);remeron (45mg/ 1tab/ at night)xanax (0.5 mg/1 tab/4x/day)

i am tired of taking this everyday. I used to take pills when I was young, but they were vitamin pills, protein shakes, all healthy things. I was a bodybuilder/weightlifter before I got hurt at work.

For therapy I coach little league baseball for my grandsons. I also take care my 10 grandkids (not all at once, but sometimes I have 5 of them).

If there is anyone out there that is in the same boat as I am, please write to me. Thanks and god bless. Grandpa al.

You need to see you primary doctor ASAP. Could be many things, but infection is most likely.

Sorry for all you're going through. I've suffered with ruptured disc (L5-S1, L4-L5) with numbness and severe pain in my left leg and as of late, my right leg also.

Although I do not have blood in my urine or any problems like that, I do have a difficult time urinating. It takes me forever too. My dad got me started taking "Saw palmetto" which has helped a bunch.

I can tell you for certain that the pain medication by itself can make it very difficult to urinate. When I'm on Percocet, even for a short time, I have a hard time going. I can sit there for 20 minutes and not go. Your taking high doses too, no wonder you can't go.

The Effexor XR can cause problems with that too, difficultly urinating and sexual disfunction. Give the "Saw Palmetto" a try, you can get it at your pharmacy. It really helped me.

Good luck with your grandkids and your health!

God Bless!
