Hello, I am an 17 year old, that has had pericarditas 4 times now. I don't know anyother place to post about this, because it doesn't really fall into a heart disorder, and it mostly occurs in males. Anyways it's rare to get once and even rare a second and I have had it 4 times. It is the inflamation of your paricardium sac (spelling). Anyways I don't know why I keep getting it, and I was wondering if anyone else has had it before, or if they know anything about it? Or why I could maybe keep getting it. I am an active person, as I play competative hockey, play paintball, and work out at the gym. I got it the first time at 16 years old in august, it was so bad that they thought I suffered a massive heart attack, and I was rushed to hospital. I was hospitilized for 4 days down at toronto sick kids. That was in 2004. Now in 2005 I have gotten it in august, september, and now november. So yeah has anyone else had it? Or know about it?

Did they tell you what caused it? Usually pericarditis is caused by a viral infection. They should have done blood tests to check for infections?

Yes, they thought it was viral at first but after 4 times, it is clear that it isn't viral, they have taken many blood tests.. They have also tested for anti-bodies too see if my own body was atacking my heart, they all came back normal

pericarditis
Hello my name is Gary I'm a 27 yr old male that just recently has been in the hospital 3 times in a matter of a months. They also told me it was from a viral infection but the day of discharge they told me that they didn't think that it was pericarditis. They did blood tests,EKG's, and ultrasounds, but could never really determine the cause of it. Through different research sites, they say that the condition can come from an underlying medical condition such as Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, HIV...in order for them to diagnose some one, they would have to draw fluid from the pericardum sac to see what type of infection actually caused it. But, you still need blood test to see if any underlying condition may be causing the problem. Another problem they see with this is Tuberculosis(SP?. I don't think they really know themselves in the medical field. If your doctors told you that it really didn't fall into a heart disorder..I don't know, they told us it was out of general doctor care, and that he needed to see a heart specialist or lung specialists. We still don't know much either,..if anyone has anything new on this, please reply back to this board!! Thank you!
