I have had gout for a number of years. Over the lat few months the gout has decided not to attack my big toe and decided instead to go for my knees.
I had an attack a few weeks ago and I had a blood test last monday which showed I had a very low urate level. Then the sneeky little gout gave me an attack in my left knee the very next after I got my results. What gives? I can't think of anything iv'e eaten or drank that could have triggered it off. I changed my diet a while ago when I started reading up about gout.

Make sure that you don't have sleep apnea, that is, repeated periods where you stop breathing for many seconds while you are sleeping, often with snoring when your breathing resumes. The reduction in oxygen causes the body's cells to begin a disintegrating process (catabolism), which culminates in the generation of excess uric acid that can then precipitate as monosodium urate crystals that lodge in a joint to cause gout. By the time you have a blood test done, your uric acid level can return to normal.
