Hey, i've had my period for four years and I use tampons (i dont know if that really matters) im not preggo as far as I know. But i've never had a pap test, is this a bad thing? My bf thinks I should get one to make sure everythings ok up there, but I dont like the idea of spreading my legs for a stranger and letting them shove caca in me and look around. I had a hard enough time getting naked infront of my bf when I wanted to! What should I do?

Depends on how old you are. Most docs reccomend that you have your first pap when you turn 18. If you are sexually active then yes, go just to be safe. Remember always look out for yourself! They are a little awkward though, especially the first one. A little uncomfortable, but not painful. If you have a family doctor then thats a good choice, that way he/she won't be a total stranger. Goodluck.

Yes I am sexualy active, but I cant go to my family doctor cause he is a stranger too, considering i've only seen him twice! My old doctor switched into hospital worker but he didnt like it so now he works at a walk in clinik, and he's the only doctor i've ever trusted because he was my birth doctor. I am 16 so should I wait till im 18?

It's up to you sweetie. If it were me yes, I would get a pap, just to be safe. Now that you are active you need to take precautions. There is so much stuff out there and you don't want to get caught...So do whats best for you. Not trying to scare u or anything just trying to make you aware. I lost my virginity at 16, and my mom and I scheduled an appointment about a month later. I get one once a year. They don't only look and test for diseases, they also look for cyts, fibroids, ect.

it would be retarded if you didnt get a pap.

You think your mature enough to have sex if you cant even get checked out by a doctor to see if everything is okay with your body?

Thats doing it dumb.

Im sorry you had to think im stupid! But have you ever heard of emotional problems, like having a hard time trusting strangers because the way your family raises you and also have problems with your body. I dont want people looking at my body because I dont think its nice looking. Im sorry if you think im stupid. I have a hard enough time seeing myself naked in the mirror.

It is recomended that you have a papsmear every 2 years once you are sexually active, find a doctor that you feel comfortable with, it may even be more comfortable to see a female doctor. If you have a womens health clinic near you they may do paps there or be able to refer you to a doctor that they feel will make you feel at ease. Try asking an older freind or family member who they see..... In the end its your body and you have to feel comfortable with who you see . Pap smears are not as bad as ppl make them out to be, just relax and remember that they are a nessacery part of life and it could save yours.... Good luck sweetie xxxx

your dumb.

You cant even stand to let a doc see you naked but you want a baby with your boyfriend?

Do you even know half the things doctors do when you're pregnant?

They'll feel your boobs to make sure everything is okay, to make sure you dont have any lumps.

He'll look at your vagina and your butthole to make sure everything looks like its in its normal place, and you actually want to give birth?

Your legs are going to be flung open pushing as hard as you possibly can, your vagina is going to be seen by a lot of people.

And your still b*tching about how you dont want anyone to see you naked. If you wanna get pregnant then get used to it sweetheart.

At the end of your pregnancy the doctor will check you once a week to see if you are dialated.

Dont blame your childness on your family.

Wow! You need to shut up! Now!! She obviously posted this for your advice, not for you to call her stupid. I think you are the stupid one for not respecting peoples feelings and emotions. So she is scared, everyone is scared of something for the first time. She did not say she could not do it, she just said she is scared. I am glad you are so easy to just spread your legs to some stranger, shows why you are on here!

for your information you nosey b*tch

i'm happy to stay healthy and would spread my legs for any doctor who could diagnose any problem I would have, im not some immature sl*t like this little girl, who wants to have a baby but cant even get checked by a doing it doctor.

If you're too vagina to get checked by a doctor then you dont need to be having sex period.

Me being nice or not you should take my advice.

I have a yearly pap test, I was due for one when I was 5 months pregnant & it came back that I have cervical cancerous tissue that I have to get cut out after the babys birth.

I could of went on and on with that, it could of spread and i'd have to end up getting my woman parts taken out.

If I would of let that go on without treatment, I would of never been able to have kids again.

Nobody wants to go through that.

I apologize for being so mean, but its your life and your decisions.

You either take my advice or not.

But when it comes to being healthy I don't care who I have to open my legs for i'd do it for any doctor if they could pick up any problem I may have now or may have in the future.

Its ok, my mom had cancer of the cirvix and got her parts removed now she cant have children but it didnt bother her since she already was 30 something and had all the kids she wanted. One thign about the pap test is how do I bring it up that I need one, I mean I live with nothing but guys (mom walked out, still lives in town but she dosnt do caca) and my dad would be weirded out, he only thinks u need a pap test if you've had sex and he dosnt know i've had sex (since that didnt start long ago, plus it aint his buisness anyways) so what am I to do?

Do you have a planned parenthood where you live?

You dont even have to go to planned parenthood, look in the phone book & find even a female obgyn doctor that you'd be comfortable with. Call and make an appointment.

Tell her you want your first pap smear since you're sexually active.

Doctors aren't allowed to tell your parents anything if you don't want them too. I know planned parenthood is really good about that and when they call your home they wont even talk to any of your parents about the situation, they'll ask for you.

In england I guess its different.

I am 21 and they tell us to wait till we are 25 to have a pap..
I guess cause you guys all have to pay for it they like to do it as often as possible to get more money.. While her is all included in the national health service we have.
