Of course, I actually prefer it for a girl, lots of names these days can be used for both sexes. One of my girlfriend's name is troy. :)

I think it would be fine. I also know a female ryan and two male ashleys. A lot of names now can be used for either sex.

ashley is more commen for boys then girls in australia (thats where I live) but the girls usually spell it ashlee, ashleigh, ashlie etc and the boys are usually just ashley. My cousin's name is ashley alan.
