Hi,

i am 32 years of age and have been experiencing problems with cysts for about 6 years now. I had a cyst on my left ovary that was removed, then 6 months later a cyst had grew inside my left ovary. That's when I had the left ovary removed. Now 1 1/2 years later, I am having the same problem but on the right side. There was several cysts on my right ovary. The doc gave me birth control pills, and 2 other treatments to see if the cysts would shrink. Unfortunately, they didn't. The cysts actually grew inside of my right ovary. I started to have more pain on my right side and it was discovered that now I have multiple cysts (5) inside of my right ovary.

My Dr. Started me on this medicine called danazol to ease the pain and possibly shrink the cysts. I am really tired of going round and around and around about these cysts. I have been on this medication for about 2 weeks and it has slowed the pain down some but not all the way. I finally told the doc that since the cysts won't completely go away and it is inside of my ovary, I would like to have a hysterectomy. He was okay with it but he wasn't being that I was 32 years of age (he told me that I was too young). I'm to the point now where I don't care about being young, I care about being healthy and being able to be a mom to my 2 beautiful children.

I'm scared to have the surgery. I've heard pros and cons about it but I believe that i'm ready for it. I would like to have some insight from anyone that has been in my shoes. I don't know if I should have the surgery or try the medication out a little longer. Thanks

My Experience
Hi,

my experience was almost exactly like yours, and I am 33.

After once having the cysts drilled with a laser, I had my left ovary out nov 2001. Then my right ovary began with the same problem. I have polycystic ovaries but not polycystic ovarian syndrome. I also had cramping throughout the my entire cycle and I had frequent periods. My biggest complaint, however, was painful intercourse. I had a laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy three weeks ago with removal of the right ovary as well. I am on an estrogen patch. I had adenomyosis and cysts in both my ovary and fallopian tube. No wonder I hurt! My recovery has gone quite smoothly, and I will return to work in january.

Good luck to you, no matter what course of action you take.
