I am 21 years old and saturday (12/6) I had my first seizure ever! I went to the doctor on monday and she ordered an entire run of blood work that I have not heard anything back from yet... I have 2 appointments today for a ct scan and an eeg. I am really nervous and anxious to find out what caused this. What i'm looking to find out is if anyone else out there didn't have any problems with seizures until later in life (it seems that everyone I talk to started having them as a child) and what the possible causes are. I would greatly appreciate any information that anyone could offer.

Thanks - crystal

Infor On Seizures
Hi crystal
if you look on further you can read all the infor about me. The topic is brain surgery. Did you have a gran mal or a petit mal? Get back to me and if you have any more questions about me. I'm here for you. Take care. Let me know what the doc. Says. And if you have any of the same things I had as a kid. Jamie

I had a grand mal. I was asleep when it started. My boyfriend was in the kitchen and he said that he heard me cry out. When he got back to the bedroom my muscles were seizing so bad I was flat on my back holding both arms straight up with both hands in fists. The spasms themselves actually lasted about 3.5 minutes. Afterward I passed out for about 5 minutes and awoke when the paramedics had already arrived.

I just got back from having my tests done, but it will be another day or so before I hear back from the neurologist. I will let you know as soon as I hear something back from them.

Thank you so much and i'll talk to you again soon

Hi Everyone
I am 21 yrs old. My first seizure was 2 months ago. I had 5 grand mal seizures in a row and I couldnt stop it felt to me like I was comming in and out of consiousnes so I knew some of what happened. Since then I have had them frequently almost 6 per day(absence and grand mal). I saw a neurologist and he said I a normal. That I had normal brain waves and that it is all in my head he did mention that my eeg showed severe stress. I though that he was an fool and I got a second opinion. The second opinion showed that there was yet again no abnormalities. But that I have a rare temporal lobe epilepsy. I am photosensitive. I am on tegretol but it isnt working. No one in my family has a history but I think mine is all caused from stress and now I just cant stop.

Ccooke82....Pretty much anything can trigger a seizure, and you can get it anytime during your life....It's usually with younger children and older people....Massave &/or small head injuries can cause seizures/epilepsy
