12 Month Old With Swollen Lymph Nodes And Abnormal Wbc Posted: 11-09-05 06:36am
Hi,
not sure if anyone can help or give advice
as I don't have that much information
myself at the moment. Basically my 12m
old son has had a enlarged lymph node in
his neck for the last few months and now
the nodes surrounding it are starting to
get bigger. My doctor had a blood test
taken which showed an abnormal white blood
cell count but he didn't tell me what was
abnormal about it. He said all the other
bit were ok such as he isn't anemic. He
has now reffered him to the pediactric
consultant and I am now waiting for an
appointment. Could this be early leukemia
or am I getting myself worried over
nothing???
Could it be an infection that he is
fighting off at the moment. Lymph nodes
enlarge as they distribute fluid and are
vital in the immune response. An abnormal
ussually a high wbc would also suggest
infection but not too sure about a low wbc
that has more to do with the body not
being able to compensate for the
infection.
