Posted: 12-09-03 19:52pm

Crying
or Very sad
i'm in my third trimester and am having a lot of pain. The pain starts at the middle of my thighs and goes all the way up towards my stomach. I can sit down but if I try to put my legs up on the couch, or even roll over in bed I have so much pain. I also feel this pain while walking or sitting for more then 20 minutes. Any ideas as to what is going on ? Please help !!!

Labor pains? Maybe false labor pains? Sometimes in your last trimester pain and discomfort will occur all the time! Just time the pain and if they come regularly every 10 minutes call your doctor! How far along are you?
Good luck. Keep me posted,
sam

Hey mama, you responded to mine so let me tell you what I know. I am currently in my third pregnancy. I kinda feel like i'v been pregnant forever I only had two months between the last preg and this one but any how I defenantly remember those pains. It was awful. My docter told me that was my cervix thinning (effacing) and also your hips spreading getting ready for labor. Just take it easy and slow down when you feel these pains. Put your feet up. It defanantly is not labor pains. Those will not go into your legs, if at all it will be when your baby is comming and you will not mistake that pain for anything else. I had these pains your speaking of about 6 weeks and on, befor my daughter was born. Tell your doctor about it next visit.

Wow! Two months between the two! Did you plan that? My best friend had son when he was 3 months old she got pregnant again. It was an accident. She was a little bummed at first because she had not lost the weight from the first prganacy and her doctor put her in the high risk category, but now, seven years and three more kids later those two are as close as twins! She said a lot of people judged her and made her feel crappy, even her own parents. I hope that has not happened to you. She was not able to enjoy her pregnancy.
My kids are all 7 years apart so each pregnancy is like the first time. I guess that has its downfalls too!
I know the feeling of being pregnant forever, but I guess it is worse in your case. You have been pregnant for almost a year and a half!
Well, I am glad to hear you are okay! I hate any type of pain; I have long forgotten labor pains! Yuck! Anyway, I have 5 more months before this one is due so I hope not to feel any labor pains for a while.
Keep in touch,
sam

I agree that it's not labor pains. How do I know? Because if they are labor pains i've been in labor for three months now. I've got severe pain in my hips, back, abdomin, legs... I can't lay down for more than five minutes if I want to move again later without crying. My doctor says this is normal, but I don't see how. I'm 34 weeks now, and like I said, it's been going on for three months, and every day it gets worse. My hips and pelvis click and grind when I walk, and that doesn't exactly feel good either.

So, are we the only two? Because i'm tired of my doctor saying it's normal when i've never heard anyone else complain about it.

Sorry to double post!!!

I got off the phone with a friend who says there is some thing that sometimes happens in pregnancy (someone plz tell me the name of this) that sounds like what we got! What happens is the hormone that is released soon before you are to give birth is released instead in the first trimester. What the hormone does is makes it so your pelvis can stretch, it relaxes the thingies holding it firm. So, during the first and second trimester your pelvis and hips are all loose and grinding and you get super-sore by the third trimester.

Okay, so anyone know what that's called so I can do some more research on it?

Hi, sorry you're feeling horrible- I know what it's like, i've slipped two discs in my lower back, and it's a party, believe me.

The hormone I think you are referring to is called "relaxin" (pretty appropriate huh) it allowes ligaments to stretch to allow you to give birth, but yuor friend is right, it can cause problems, you are ore prone to injury, because you are looser.

I think what might be causing you problems might be the baby's head maybe having dropped into the pelvic cavity already. This happens with first pregnancies alot- 2nd and subsequent babies sometimes don't move down until you are in labour, but first babies get ready early for some reason.
Anyway, the extra pressure caused by the babies wieght on your pelvis can cause pelvic, lower back and leg pain simular to what you are describing. It can also cause nerve pain and pins and needles. It's is normal, but damn uncomfortable- it doesn't happen to everyone, but it is not uncommon.
It might be easier to make yourself more comfortable if you get yourself into a position where the baby is not pressing down on the pelvis- getting down on all fours for example, leaning forward slightly- or creative use of pillows in bed. What you want to try and do is use gravity to relive the pressure.
You will need to rest, and avoid strenuous excercise, it is ok to take paracetamol- but discuss with you doctor first.

I hope this helps you, at least maybe to find your self a comfy postition to rest in from time to time.

Take care, and take it easy- i'll bet your baby comes a little early, if he or she has moved down already, so the end might be in sight.
Xx el.

I'm already praying he comes early, as most women in the third trimester do... So, do you know what it's called when relaxin is released early? Anyone? (likes to do research)

Relaxin

Relaxin is released from the very beginning, not during labour. That's why you need to be careful with certain execises etc. During pregnancy.

I'm sure your pain is due to the babies head. If it make you feel better. My daughter was "head down from about 32 weeks, or earlier, and was born at 36 weeks, 2 days. (perfectly healthy, and the size of a full term baby-3.1 kilograms - no idea what that is in pounds- more than 6 though)

good luck!!

The thing I read in a medical forum said it was released during the third trimester... And if it's released early it's not normal, but not uncommon to happen. :?
