I am trying to find out if there is any other definition for colonic in the medical field that is different that the usual cleansing of the colon with fluids via the rectum. Is there some other medical definition for what this is?

Spontaneous Colonic
I've had both colonics and enemas. As for colonics, i've pretty much found that the "mainstream" medical community does not really do colonics on any great scale. That's not to say that mds and rns and others in the medical field don't do them, because they are out there and do these procedures. Then too, those, for the most part who are into administering colonics, are for the mosrt part , though, again not all ,are opposed to enemas for various reasons. So, I think to sort of guide you in this area, i'd say that the use of the terms colonic irrigation or cleansing is more likely to be the terms used in naturopathic, holistic and alternative medicine practices. And in the mainstream medical community, you'll find the use of "enemas" as fairly common when the procedure is required. I think you're pretty limited to three major terms used for the introduction of water into the rectum for the purpose of cleansing the colon as enema, colonic irrigation or colonic cleansing. And finally, i've heard pros and cons for both enemas and colonics, and I think it depends on who you go to and their respective personal feelings on the issue of colonics and enemas. Please post if you have any more info on this.
