Q: Herniated Discs -- Are These Symptoms Typical?

My doctor did an mri and said I have herniated/bulging discs. I have been having pain/numbness in my back and left leg for months. The back pain is usually a quick jolting pain and a feeling that my back is locking up; it stops after a few seconds. What is really bothering me though is the leg pain. It is mostly in my left hip, ankle, or foot. Its a throbbing pain that doesnt quit for hours...They gave me naproxen and relafen neither of which make a difference. It seems from what ive read that most people have a pain down their leg, which I used to have but dont so much anymore. My doctor said lots of people have herniated discs; it seemed like she was implying that I shouldnt be in this much pain. Im tired of not being able to do anything I used to without having terrible pain; its kind of depressing. Im not even 30 years old yet and some days I feel like im 70. Is this just part of getting older? Would physcial therapy help? Will the discs heal themselves? I feel like my doctor doesnt care if im in pain. Im tired of telling them im in pain and them telling me to just keep taking naproxen even though ive told them it doesnt help. Id appreciate any replies even if youre just commiserating. Thank you.
