Q: Gatric By-pass Surgery

Confused Well, I have a lot of things to ask about the gastric by-pass surgery.
1. Why do they want 5 years of documented weight loss? I have been obese since I was born @ 10 lbs. And am in all other manners healthy.
2. Why do they need another doctor to tell them that you need to have the surgery. If my insurance covers the procedure what does it matter?
3. And why can I not find a doctor that can do the surgery close to home? Maybe I have not researched enough??????

Has your insurance approved the surgery? Usually they only approve if you have a medical condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes or some type of back or knee problems.

The 5 year documentation is asked for to verify that you have tried to lose weight on your own and have not been successful.

The gastric by pass is a drastic step in losing weight, have you thought about the balloon or the band?
