Dear Friend
My partner and I are also trying to have a child, we are in a lesbian relationship though. We have started going to a ivf clinic. You should start taking folic acid 3 months before trying to conceive ok. And you can also get ovulation kits from your local chemist. They work best to tell you when the time is right. Ovulation usually occurs on the 12 day of your cycle, thats what we were told by our specialist. When you next have your period that is day 1.. From the first bleed count 12 days on. Then use the ovulation test kit. If you are ovulating, then you have 36hrs of your most fertile time to try and conceive. As you already know female sperm lasts 7 days and male sperm only lasts 3 days in the uterus before dying. In that time if there is an egg present you will get pregnant.Otherwise. If you have been trying for a few yrs already go see your gp and go see a gynocologist to see what is the matter. It may be something simple and you may need to be put on a drug that can help you relese eggs each month. At our clinic though they say that if you havent fallen pregnant within 6 months of full on trying they class it as a fertility problem and you can get help.
Best of luck to you.

Hi!

I'll try and answer some of these questions for you........

1. Nutrition: cut back on any drinking, quit smoking. Start taking a daily vitamin that is higher in folic acid. Prenatal vitamins are a good way to go!.

2. It used to be that dr's thought sex every other day was your best bet, however they are now finding (through studies) that there is no big benefit to every other day vs every other day. This is true if the man has good sperm quality.

3. After an iui, dr's will have the patient elevate her hips so that the insemination will be angled. So you may want to try elevating your hips after intercourse for 20 minutes.

4. I also recommend a good ob/gyn work up. This helps make sure that you are as healthy as you can be. A pap smear can help make sure that there are no viruses in your way of conceiving.

5. If you have been trying for more than six months, for sure go for a check up. Also have your partner's sperm analysis done so that you know for sure what you are working with.

I hope this helps a little!

Nancy
