Weight Gain After Hysterectomy Posted: 11-02-05 22:27pm
I am 34 years old and had a radical
hysterectomy for cervical cancer 4 and 1/2
months ago. I still have my ovaries.
Since then, i've gained about 10 pounds.
I was wondering if anyone else has had the
same experience and if they've found a
solution. I am not taking any
hormones.
Thanks.

Purple1, you are not by yourself. I am 38
and had a hysterectomy 2 years ago. I
have gained about 35 lbs since. I have no
energy and I feel terrible. I am up to
250 and thinking about gastro bypass. I
just wonder if it would help. Some people
end up gaining weight back after they have
stretched their stomach back out...Which
you shouldn't do. That would be my luck.
I have one ovary left and feel maybe it
does not produce enough hormones for me.
I am tired of being this heavy and feeling
so tired all the time. I have mood swings
and even take lexapro for depression. I
have also lost my sex drive but at 250 who
wants to feel sexy? Lol. I just want to
feel I am human again instead of an old
woman.

You both must be puppy's. (gaining
weight after spay) .Lol
no seriously, I gained weight too. From
190---240 after mine, but finally just
lost it. I did have the beginning
symptoms of diabeties at the time too
though. When I quit the sugared sodas I
lost mine--never to gain it again.
Went down to 170 while working, but
without working I stay at around 180 now.

I wish sugared sodas was my problem but I
drink sugar-free diet rite most of the
time or anything diet. My problem is I
can't get the energy to excerise and take
care of the house work and work my job.
Doctor found reactive mono which would
explain the fatique. I been taking
vitamins and eating protein but I don't
feel any different.

reactive mono--just means you have been
exposed to mono right?? Or is it
something you will always have?
Vitamin b-12 everyday. When I was
diagnosed cervical cancer at 25--it took
me from very hyper--never home, to a hang
around the house, dont wanna do anything
person too.. And then I had things I had
to do and it totally exhausted me. But
our body is going thru so much---it takes
time to get back to feeling normal. Some
times right after hysterectomy(especially
after cancer) our ovaries may still be
affected and need time to heal--so it can
supply us the hormones we need. I also
had the prolactin--so I was expelling
colostrum. He prescribed b-12, and
suggested I get the diabeties test--which
I never did. For around a year I was
still sluggish and ovaries still affected.
I went in to have them removed about
year later, and with antibiotics, I was
allergic, so they had to pospone the
surgery. That course of antibiotics
cured what ailed me and I completely
recovered with no more symptoms at all,
ever.

My Dr. Said that back last spring there
was a big outbreak in my area with mono.
My husband was hit with it and I really
thought I should be tested but never did
go for it. Several months later when I
went to the doc for tiredness and mood
swings they did the blood work and it
showed up. Reactive is something that
keeps coming back. I never remember
having a good ole case of mono. I guess
since the hysterectomy it changes so much
in our bodies. I have read on here about
many women with weight gain and menopause
symptoms. When I told my gyno about the
hot flashes he told me to take soy pills.
The hot flashes went away and then I
stopped taking the soy. Maybe I will try
taking the b-12 and start taking my soy
again. Thanks!

post-hysterectomy weight gain Posted: 04-05-08 21:41pm
I am 30 years old. I had a hysterectomy
when I was 29. I also have progressive MS
so my mobility is very limited. I have
always been slender (thinking I was fat)
about 115-120 lbs. at 5'5". I had my
hysterectomy 1-1/2 yr ago and I am
steadily gaining weight. My weight gain
is up to about 25-30 lb. I don't even
know exactly how much because I am so
distressed I wont even think about getting
on a scale. It's not like it is just in
my waist like all the info. I've read
says, but my butt and thighs too. I can't
stand it. Because I am in and out of a
wheel chair my doc says to only eat
500-600 calories a day. I do that and I
still just keep gaining. Does anyone have
any tips to help me get back some
semblance of the body I once had?
