Q: Strabismus / Cross Eyes - Please Help. Eye 'over Corrected'

Hi,

this is my 3rd time I have had a botox injection for strabismus - my left eye turns in slightly.

Anyway, I had 2 units - waited 4 months, then had 3 units - waited 3 months .. Now I have had another 3 units and my left eye is pointing slightly outwards.

It's really annoyed me to say the least as my first 2 injections there was no 'over correction'.

It's now been 6 weeks (7 weeks on thursday) with no improvement whatsoever. I have double vision also. Does botox definately wear off? Surely I wont have it over corrected forever?

I read on the internet that 2 weeks to take full effect - another 4 weeks of no change (6 weeks)... And then a further 6 weeks to gradually wear off - totalling 12 weeks (3 months). As it's been 6 weeks im hoping things will improve?

Also, im not asking for it to completely wear off - just to wear off by about 50% so my eyes are straight!

Anybpdy had the same exerience?

Hi,

sorry, I can't answer your question but maybe you could help me.......

I have just had botox injections in my right eye, I have an outwards squint and have no double vision.

I got my injections about a day and a half ago and it has not kicked in yet......

When does it start to staighten up?

Does it happen gradually a tiny bit at a time, or very quickly?

I am expecting double vision but there is a chance that my good eye will still focus as normal and my bad eye will be ignored as it is at the moment.

Thanks for any reply!

Hiya,

with me I had the injection on thursdays and I usually notice some improvement by saturday, with it taking around 1-2 weeks to get to it's maximum. I hope this helps. I presume you had yours done friday? In theory you should start to notice something later on today.

With regards to my first post, im actually noticing an improvement - about time I say ! It's been almost 8 weeks with an eye pad on lol. Mine isnt too bad and people dont really notice, but people are saying its a long time to have an eye infection hehe!

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I had my injection on friday at 3pm, very painful I thought!

I have had 3 operations when I was very young and now my eye muscles are scared....This was why it was so painful.

I am really hoping I don't get double vision, as my employers are not too sympathetic about me taking any time off.

Glad things are improving for you.

If you get double vision, wear an eye pad like I am doing - if people ask and you dont wish to tell them about the botox say you have an eye infection and it's sensitive to light.

Friday 3pm - yes i'd say tonight you *should* notice a difference, but it might be tomorrow.

Painful? It does hurt a bit, but perhaps they didn't put enough eye drops in? They should put enough in until you can't feel the last eye drop actually hit your eye.

Its nearly 3 days, but I don't think anything has happened yet!

Maybe my eye has moved very very slightly but I am not sure, is the botox supposed to work very slowly, or does it happen quickly?

Cheers for any help!

Hi,

it all depends how much they gave you - do you know how many units they gave you? It's usuall either 1,2,3 or 4. With me I noticed a difference in 2 days, with it taking around a week to get to full strength.

If it's your first injection maybe they didn't give you enough. Are you due to go back in about a week or 2 for them to re-measure everything?

Hello,

i don't know how many units they gave me, I enquired before I got the injections to ask if they gave a smaller amount on your first time to try out, but was told you get the full amount.

I was told that usually they see the patients 1-2 weeks after the injection, but I stay too far away to make the trips so often.

I was told to keep a note of my eye at different stages and that they would want to see me no later than a month.

After travelling to a place miles away that I am not familar with and spending a load of cash, I am getting worried that nothing is going to happen.

Its still not 3 full days yet though....Maybe I need to wait a bit longer.

Thanks for the reply! :)
