Q: Tests

So far i've had several ecg's, blood tests, a chest x-ray,
but i'm convinced I need more tests like an echocardiogram,
the doctor insists I don't need any more as it's all caused by anxiety
but I still can't really belive this...I'm 15 would you reccomend I get
an echo test done since I get palpitations and discomfort in my left
arm sometimes along with lightheadedness so i'm sure I have some
kind of heart valve disease...Would I need a scan to be sure or is
a physical examination and ecg's etc enough to detect anything?

I definitely think everything is anxiety related only b/c I suffer from anxiety and feel that I need all the tests in the world. I've had numerous tests and i'm still not convinced. If the tests make you feel better, then request that the doctor lets you. It's your money and your life. Most doctors think i'm crazy. I'm actually going to a psychologist to see if it helps....Maybe you should do the same. By the way...What are your symptoms?

Symptoms
Thanks for responding,
the main symptoms I got was a tingling in my left arm which was what started my worry and then I got pain in my arm and the left side of my chest which sent me to the emergency department worrying I was having a heart attack.
Since then i've had all kinds of symptoms like a pounding heart,
dizziness sometimes when exercising, which was put down to overbreathing, I also get cold sweaty feet which often makes me start worrying, as well as dizziness (low blood pressure) on standing.
Recently I have also been getting fatigue and indigestion and sometimes I get smothering kind of shortness of breath.
This all started around 8 months ago but i've been severly anxious and stressed for the past couple of years, I also get severe social anxiety.
I've seen several doctors and a cardiologist and had the tests I mentioned done, they say it's almost certainly anxiety.
As for the psycologist idea, thanks, i'm already seeing one at the moment and I do think it helps a little.
I'm still partly convinced i've got a physical problem rather than a psycological one though.
Sorry for the long post, thanks again for your reply.

Its Anxiety
Hello

i read ur post and felt I had to reply. At the beginning of this year I started getting palpitations which I immediately put down to a heart attack. I was rushed to hospital and told it was a panic attack but no further information was given to me at the time. So the next few months I went back and forth to the hospital sometimes dialling for an ambulance only to be told nothing was wrong.

I had every test you could possibly imagine, putting myself through even more stressful situations. All for nothing it was anxiety! Of course I didn`t believe any doctor at the time but now I know better. Accepting the diagnoses is the first step to your recovery. Your only fueling your anxiety with these terrible thoughts and fears.

I have had all your symptoms and more, all are natural reactions for the body! Its your body`s way of reacting to fear only the fear is out of proportion yet the body can`t differentiate it goes into fight and flight response. I have been getting better since I accepted my diagnosis. It has been difficult and every day is different but you can get over it.

I have some information that you may find useful, if you would like this just pm me.

Good luck
debs

Thanks, I feel it is easier to accept that anxiety could be a cause of all the symptoms I get, but I still am not completely convinced that all of the tests I have had done are enough to make a diagnosis.
I'm not sure I will ever be able to feel safe again and with all the medical things I have read it's not particualy easy to feel secure...

Hi,

listen, you can have all the medical test done that you can, but I think from my experience that your problem is anxiety. When I was your age my parents did all kinds of medical test done to me, still now ther is nothing wrong with my health. I think that a good thing, but, dealing with panick attacks its been very hard. I dont want to scare you but you should got see a specialyst on anxiety before it get worst... You can ask me any questions about it, I might help you...
Good luck

I went to the doctors around 9 times for various tests all showing there was nothing wrong with me and I had similar symptoms to you! Its so frustrating when they find nothing because you start to think its all in your head, I do think its the anxiety causing your physical symptoms!
