Q: Continually Smelling Smoke For No Known Reason

I am a 45 year old female. For over a month now I continually smell smoke for no known reason. It is stronger at bedtime. No one in the house smokes. Also no one else smells the smoke other than me. Any help in answering this would be greatly appreciated. I am sure there are others out there that this has happened to. It is very annoying and bothers me that something could be wrong with me.

Hello. Although I am only 25 years old, I do recall my 62 year old office manager telling me that one sign of menopause is smelling things burning.

I don't know if "burning" smell is different from the "smoke" smell.

Are you in premenopause maybe?

Smoke Smell
I smelled burned toast on and off for a year (sometimes it was just the burning smell). As time went by it got more frequent. My doctor sent me to see a neurologist, who told me the first sign of a temporal lobe tumor is smelling things that aren't there. I had an mri, and luckily I had a huge cyst on my pituitary gland that was putting pressure on my temporal lobe (instead of a tumor). I had it removed and don't smell smells anymore.

Get it checked out!!!

Re: Continually Smelling Smoke For No Known Reason
I am 36, and had an mri, it was normal, they thought it was a sinus infection, gave me z-pack, that worked for about a month, and I thought I was over it, but about 3 days ago, it came back, so I have no idea what it is, all other test that they did, were normal.

Smoke Smell at bedtime
I have MS and currently on my second major attack. A recent MRI showed the lesion on my left temporal lobe has enlarged somewhat although no inflammation is apparent. I smell burning rubber at bedtime and also cannot tolerate cooking smells, ammonia or chlorine. My ENT specialist said that this would be associated with the left temporal lobe.

smelling smoke
Today is the first time I've heard other people say they had the smelling smoke thing. I'm 54 and I've had this problem for about 2 years. I'm wondering if it's neurological because I have other 'episodes' that I originally thought were seizure activity but several years ago, all tests came back okay. These episodes last 15 seconds or so and over the years have become stronger and now follow up with nausea. What the heck is it?

Smelling Smoke constantly
Okay I had the same issue, smelling smoke, no matter where I went I smelled it. I am in menapausal age range, but that is not what the doctor told me.
It was an EXTREME SINUS INFECTION, but since I constantly take sinus medicine for headaches I wasn't getting the other symtoms. so they put me on BACTRIM for 10 days and it is gone!

I am a 53 year female in menopause and I too have been smelling a smoke smell for about 3 mths. It all started after having a bout with bronchitis and sinus infection. Was on Levaquin for the sinus. Took all meds was fine for about 2 weeks came back. Was on another dose of Levaquin and when I finished it I couldn't smell at all for a little while about 5 days. When I could start to smell I had this annoying smoke or ash smell. I think its med related.
