Hello.... I'm diagnosed with bipolor disorder , had my first real "mania"

When I was ill, I saw things like one day I turned on my computer and saw jesus walking in a field of tall wheat he turned to me and spoke to me...

I also during my episode had thoughts that I was a prophet for god and that I was here to enlighten the world with my poetry .... I also beleived that my husband was secretly a spy and that at the age of 40 evryone should be forced to divorce......

My question is .... What is the difference between my experience in mania (hallucinations) verses those of skitsophrenia?

I really don't see the difference, any help on this or insight would be greatly appreciated

Your symptoms sound more like schizophrenia than bipolar disorder. What other symptoms have you had? Do you have mood swings?

Well my first diagnosis was cyclomythia but then after they put me on celexa anti depressant I went manic, hyper sexual, writing poetry all the time, playing the same music over and over again... Trying to get more out of the music.

Alot of noise in my head like an orchestra , someone calling my name

i told my pdoc I thought I had scitso effective she said , it doesnt matter it is the same medication for both

i also was diagnosed with post tramatic stress ....

But still I have had no symptoms for over 4 yrs with no meds

Hi, your question is a good one. From what I understand its very hard to distinguish one from the other because most mental illness overlap each other. |for exmaple depression overlaps bipolar and bipolar overlaps schizophrenia. I have also experienced what you have .... The music ... The poetry .. Hearing from god. I had suffered from just depression for about 18 months before I had a manic episode in which these things happened. I think to be able to tell bipolar mania from schizophrenia is this >>>> schizophrenia delusions are there all the time unless u take medication but with bipolar they are only there when u are in a manic epsidoe or really really depressed episode... U can go periods of time in between feeling normal and ok.

Bipolar is considered a serious mental illness, and has psychotic types / symptoms. You can be bipolar and have hallucinations, as well as confusion and ideation. The difficulty is in the distinguishment with your personal "normal" modes and effections due to your mental structure. Schizoprhenia is sort of like a bipolar where the person becomes more inhibited (especially socially) and experiences not only far aeccentric thought, but thought disorder. So instead of wondering if your hallucinations are signs of schizophrenia (whic they could be bipolar, quite notabley, as above), I would ask yourself if you have any mental deficits that are worsening or somesuch. Such examples would be like if you begin to have difficulty with normal mental tasks like addition, or remembering important dates (provided these are new symptoms, and not just a characteristic of a forgetful person).
