Q: Glucose Test Results....confused.

Ok, so I got a fasting blood glucose test done along with a postprandiol. It was done for pcos testing to see if i'm insulin resistance, not because diabetes is suspected. Well, i'm confused because the nurse called me back and told me that all my bloodwork is within normal limits including my glucose. I know that 70-110 is a good range and when I asked her what my results were she said the fasting was 7.3. I don't know if she was reading the wrong lab result (i had alot of tests done) or if they used a different scale. I posted this question on a pcos board and somebody responded saying that they used a metric scale so I should multiply by 18, which would mean the result is 132, meaning I am diabetic. Do any of you all know that this is true or know what scale they are using? I don't think the poster is right, b/c I am pretty sure that a doctor would have to tell you if you were diabetic and that they would not have told me that everything was "normal and healthy"...Plus they also did a postprandiol, which would be even more proof that I was diabetic if that was off.

They were telling you the hba1c result, which is an average blood sugar range over the last 3 months. Multiply by 18 will not give you the correct result, there is a difficult calculation. Here is a website that shows the correct blood sugar for a hba1c result of 7.3 (183 blood sugar). 183 is not in normal range, you might want to get tested again by an endocrenologist.

Ok, well I highly doubt a doctor would tell me I was in the nirmal range and not diabetic if I was in fact diabetic. Anyways, I tested my own blood glucose after this and fasting was always in the 70s. So I was worried about nothing, I guess my results were in range and they either used a different scale or the nurse was reading the wrong results.

I would say it probably wasn't your a1c either. I would say it was probably your fasting insulin level, which should be lower than 15, so you are okay.

I'm very confusing about the glucose in the urine. I hope some one could help me.

Sugar is leaking in the urine after eating or drinking (not water). Result can up to (4 plus). Urine in the morning always show negative. Blood test (non fasting) show 6.9, 9.1, 7.6 and 6.2. Er dr said I was not a diabetic. My gp wants me to do a lot of test because my mum is a diabetic. He said if shows on the fasting blood glucose then need to take medicine. I don't want to take medicine...... So i'm not going to do the fasting blood test.

Like my case, would I only take medication after eating meal or sweets? If i'm not eating the lollies and chocolate then I don't have to take medication? Or I have to take medication regulary?

Please help anyone.

Glucose check up
Hi,
My father is a diabetic. He use Wave sense Jazz Blood Glucose Meter to check his glucose level in blood. This machine really helps him to maintain a record of his blood level, which helps him to schedule his daily routine activities. I got this helpful machine online for him from chemistdirect.co.uk, who gave me a great discount on it.
