Q: Ortho-evra Side Effects???

I recently tried using ortho-evra (the patch) last week. I put it on the night that I got my period and the next day I was very sick. I vomited 3 times, but there was nothing in my stomach. I was breaking into a cold sweat and shivering, but had no fever. I'm confused though because the nurse I talked to told me not to take off the patch and go to the er because it was probably a virus that I had caught at the er a few days ago (i also sprained my ankle). After vomiting again (sorry to get so graphic) I was so frustrated that I just took off the patch and within 30 minutes I was fine!! I'm still not sure what it was, but I know one of the side effects of ortho-evra is vomiting, yet the nurse said that it shouldn't make you vomit because it's going through your skin and not directly into your stomach... ???... So really... I'm not sure whether to just go on the pill or try again... I'm really afraid to try again because I don't want to feel all that again, and I also read that it actually could cause more clotting than the pill... What should I do??

Sorry it's so long.... Had to get this out...

I have used ortho evra for 3 years and the first time I tried it, I also felt nausea and vomitted like 3 times. I had flu like symptoms. I was even more worried cuz I thought I was pregnant ^^' but that's not the case. To tell you the truth, I just went through the pain, and a week later, I was fine ^^ I think the hormones made me feel nauseous.

But if you try again and it's just too much or somethin serious is goin on, talk to your doctor again about it.

I Just Went of Ortho Evra
I was on ortho evra for 2 years. The first 3 days I threw up at every smell just like I was pregnant. It went away after that. However, I have had some scary health problems. It scared me because all these commercials started popping up on tv about people who had serious health problems or even death from use of orhto evra. It is very convieniant but not worth my health or dying. Check out the fda website. They put out a warning that ortho evra pumps 60% more estrogen into your body than the pill. I am only 22 and girls my age are dying and having strokes from this. My ob-gyn said that I dont have to worry. But these other girls were the same as me: young, not overweight, and active and it happened to them. So anyway I stopped about 2 weeks ago and I feel more like myself now. I guess I didn't realize how much it affected me. I have so much more energy, not moody. On ortho evra I gained 20 pounds also. Hopefully I can get that off now... My advice: its not worth all the consequences.
