Q: 35 And 14 Weeks Pregnant

I went to the doctor and everything seems good. I saw the baby on the ultrasound and it has a real strong heartbeat. 2 arms two legs and the doctor said its growing on target to the weeks that I am. now the only real concern is weather or not to do the aminocentisis. I 've had two healthy normal girls. My husband things that we should leave the pregnancy in gods hands. He is afraid that if I have the testing, the risks involved will fall into our court and he doesn't want to take the risk of losing a baby... I'm also afraid.. Any suggestions

I was reading about the amniocentisis for a couple of days now and it seems scary to me. I look at it like this... If I am going to have a baby it doesn't matter how the baby comes out, it's still my child and I am going to love and care for my baby no matter what. I would not want to risk the health of my baby and I will leave everything in god's hands.

It really depends on what you think you would do if you got a result you did not want from the amnio. Obviously you know that being over 35 you are at higher risk of downs, and also for other chromosomal abnormalities. So it also depends on how you think you would cope with a disabled child, if you know that it wouldn't be a problem for you, that is great, then there is no point in having the amnio, except that some people also want to be prepared if there are going to be problems, just to know.

I've been reading about this test and talking to plenty of people one being a doctor. As far as his point of view the only thing I have against me is being 35. Other then that I come from a long line of good genes. My two girls were born healthy. I guess I can see if all the odds were stocked up against me. This child is mine and what ever god give me is a blessing. I would love it either way. I just don't want to risk its life to a test that can possibly end it's life. Thank you all for your replies but I think I made my decision.

Can someone tell me what an amnio is? Just need to know if there is something else I need to worry about.

I'm Changing My Mind to Go Through With An Amniocetisis
Amniocentisis is a risky procedure where a needle is inserted into the amniotic fluid sac. So far i've had only "level 2" ultrasounds and many blood tests to avoid this invasive procedure. But now my partner is abandoning me(he was very against the procedure saying that we should trust that the baby would be born just fine and healthy..."where's your faith?" he'd say...)and I now have to weigh the question of what would I do if my baby is sickly and i'd be on my own. I have no family support, soon no partner who by the way showed his true colors when he didn't marry me and left me pregnant like this, I barely am financially stable and I already have 2 children that I could barely afford after a horrible divorce two short years ago. I welcome this baby if it is healthy though we will all be extremely impoverished. I'm sad about my decision because I already feel the baby moving and i'm scared of the results. I already decided that if he/she is sickly i'd give it up for adoption - with my partner gone I will have no help. I'm 36 and 16weeks along...

i m' so sorry for what you are going through... You mentioned about having only level two ultrasounds. What have been the results of those?

I had a level two b/c my afp came back saying for trisomy 18 1/50. My doctor wanted the ultrasound done with possible amnio.. Fortunately I didn't need the amnio. The ultrasound confirmed the the baby was normal of the trisomy and or any abnormalities.

Level 2 Ultrasounds And Blood Tests Not Enough
My first ultrasound showed "normal physical growth" but its accompanying blood test came back with poor odds that I may have a down syndrome baby while other genetic chromosomal abnormalities were completely ruled out. The next ultrasound is coming up in a few weeks and it will "help" take some measurements and look for "clues" that would point to a down syndrome baby(thickness of the brain stem or neck is one typical trait for example) this ultrasound and its measurements and would have been enough and the rest I would have faith that the small odds would be good in my favor - had I for sure have my partner's support. Now I need to be more certain and only an amniocentisis is more accurate than bloodtests and level 2 ultrasounds combined...With the risk that the baby could be lost because of the procedure. I can also put my faith that my baby would survive the procedure as well. I'd probably go through with the pregnancy but most likely start adoption steps. Terminating the pregnancy I know I wouldn't be able to do.

You are in a tough situation and me heart goes out to you. Your faith is the only thing that can pull you through this. Your partner is long gone and isn't coming back for sure? Or is it a moment thing that he needs to sort through? I wish you lots of luck with your family you deserve it.
