We burp, belch and fart an average of 12 times a day. But why do we have gas? And what is intestinal gas?...the basics here....
Intestinal gas forms from two main sources - swallowed air and bacteria in the intestine. Plus, learn which factors to avoid to decrease the likelihood of gas....
How much gas is normal? Usually symptoms of gas and flatulence are more bothersome than serious. But learn when you should seek help for excessive gas here....

Q: Weight Loss After Gastric Bypass

Hi, I just recently had a gastric bypass, 3 weeks and 3 days ago. The question I have is that the first two weeks I dropped 20 pounds like nothing and now for the last week and a half I have only dropped 2 lbs. Is this normal? I am starting to be worried that I won't lose any more weight. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

stop losing
I had my surgery 7 months ago. I have lost 100 lbs and have stopped. I would like to lose another 40. I go up and down from 222 to 218 all the time. I think that I must have hit a plateau. I hope that is it. But I am so thankful for the lbs that I have lost. If I don't lose anymore, I would still be happy.
happy sue

weight loss after gastric bypass
I had my gastric bypass 5 yrs ago and I lost 115 lbs total, however,I went through the same discouragement,I hit quite a few "plateaus".The best advice that I can give (which I know better than anyone,it's easier said than done!!) DON'T weigh yourself everyday!! I know it's hard not to because you are so excited to see how well you've done. But honestly it's better to weigh in 1-2 times a week.I still struggle with doing this. For instance, the Dr. started me on a new insulin 1 1/2 yrs. ago and it caused me to gain 50 lbs. back so you can imagine how discouraged I've been.(I went from a sz.10-12 in 2006 to a sz.18-20 now)Well they changed my insulin again ( I got an insulin pump) and in 12 days since I got the pump I have lost 8 lbs.So I am right back like I was after surgery, trying VERY hard not to weigh in every day.I just get to anxious to see if I've lost anymore. But I say try not to get discouraged it will come off, also if you've hit a plateau try to increase your excercise, this is the best way to boost your metabolism and turns that fat into muscle which in turn actually weighs more BUT muscle burns more calories than fat so eventually it will all work itself out.Hope this helps to keep your spirits up,I'm always here if you ever need a spirit boosting or just someone who's been there to listen.(I actually started a gastric bypass support group in my town after my surgery which helped alot)

I had my gastric bypass exactly five years ago and I lost 140 pounds. I went from 250lbs (size 26/2Cool to 110lbs (size 6/Cool. The most important thing I can tell you from experience is you have to exercise. Right from the start I was walking 30 minutes a day. Then when I lost my first 40 pounds I went and joined the gym. I was going everyday to the gym, like 2 hours a day. Lifting weights and cardio. I really believe that is why I lost the majority of my weight so quickly. I lost 110 lbs of my weight in the first 8 months after my surgery. I platued at 139-140 lbs for the past 3 1/2 years.

Just in the past 6 months I lost the remaining 30 lbs. I did get some help recently from an ulcer that has been diagnosed on the stomach pouch, that is why I have lost the last 30 pounds so easily. Watch out for a stomach ulcer. Turns out they are very common after having the gastric bypass and it tooks 4 doctors to finally diagnose, after 9 months of constantly nausea and vomiting. Not a fun way to live.

I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss, enjoy the journey. I loved my first few months at the gym watching my body change. I look back at my pictures of when I weighed 140, and I think I look better in them, then now. The gym made a lot of difference. I am trying to get back in a regular routine. Keep us updated. yes

Post-op gastric by-pass thoughts
Hello everyone ! Had gastric by-pass more than 8 months and I had lost about 65% of my excess fat (about 50kgs in total). The weight loss is NOT LINEAR !!!!! There are periods when you will loose more and there are small plateau periods and so on. It is essential to keep: 1. gradual exercise (not excessive as you will have an initial dip in energy levels!); 2. small meals throughout the day and more often (do not neglect carbs, the good ones, as they are eseential); 3. re-introduce gradually after your Phase1 and 2 diets various foods and see hopw you tolerate them; 4. keep taking the vits&mineral tablets. It is also important that you keep your foods slightly alkaline and avoid high acidic foods, also my clinic has put me on LANSAPRAZOLE 1 a day long-term as there are more benefits than disadvantages. My glicemia (blood sugar) is maintained low (below 6 most of the days), and sleep apnea has gone completely ! The energy levels are back to normal (after about 2-3 months from op) and actually back to what they were 6-8 years ago Wink
Good luck and persevere !!!!
