Q: Testing For Downs Syndrome....

My eight month old daughter has had some medical issues, and now because she's not keeping up developmentally, and she has this crease on her hand, they tested her for down's syndrome. I don't think she has it.....Why the heck would they wait this long to test her???? Wouldn't it be something they would have seen earlier, like when she was first born? Anyone hear of testing this late in life??? :(

Testing For Down Syndrome
Rachel,

did you ever get the results back for your daughters chromosome test to see if she had down syndrome? You said she had a crease in the palm of her hands. Does she have all of her creases or just one? Having one crease is one of the signs of down syndrome.

She should have been tested at birth. If the pediatrician that delivered her noticed any unusual features at her birth, like her eyes for example, she should have asked for a chromosome test at that time.

I would like to know what you found out about the test. And I would be glad to help you in any way that I can.

Debbie
