Hi everyone,
i've underwent acl reconstruction 1 week ago. The choice of graft is patella tendon.
I was discharged one day after the operation. My knee was covered in thick wads of bandage and a leg brace.
The range of motion is set to 30 degrees. A physiotherapist taught me how to move around in cluthes and to apply 10-20 percent of my weight on my operated leg whenever I move around in cluthes.
3 days after I was discharged, i've returned to the hospital as instructed to open up the bandage. The moment the bandage is released, whoa..I felt pain rushing down to my operated leg. Wow. It was one hell of an experience. I believe the tension in my leg is released and blood began to flow at ease.
The nurse put on some special plasters over my wound, secure my leg in the brace, and released me.
After I reached home, I realised my wound hurts. It's not exactly the superficial wound, but I would feel something deep within the bone hurts. It should be where the grafted acl is secured. Somewhere in that area. I only felt the discomfort after the bandage is released.
The pain only subsided whenever I rest my leg on the bed. I do not feel any pain while on the bed.
But everytime I got up from bed and tried to stand up, I have to undergo the ordeal of great discomfort in my operated leg. It seems that whenever I stand up, I would feel blood rushing down to my leg and I would feel great discomfort around the wound region.
I supposed that's normal. Several times, I took painkillers and the pain subsided.
I'm trying my best not to take painkillers. According to a friend who underwent the acl recon, he advised that I have to endure with that for at least another week.
Can anyone here give me some advice please.
Thank you.
