Sorry my 1st post was so short only id posted a really long message and it didnt go through so here goes
almost 2 and a half years ago I was involved in an accident at work I fell 12 foot down a cellar immediately I felt severe pain in my back and my left leg had gone numb pins /needles etc I was taken by ambulance to hospital where I was xrayed and was told that I had broke nothing and I had no fractures I was released some 5 hours later I couldnt move for days my back, leg, buttock, was killing me I went to a follow up appointment a fortnight later told them about the pain in my leg buttock back and my leg / knee, the pain in my knee was treated as a seperate injury probably bcoz I told them id banged my knee when I landed my muscle had wasted on my left thigh after afew months and they told me this was bcoz I wasent putting any weight on or using it it I told them it kept collapsing with a pain they mri scanned my knee about a year later and it was clear when I lifted my leg 70% of the pain was in my knee 15% in my thigh and the back of it and 15% in my calf they put me on a course of physio hydrotherapy and acupuncture none of this worked possibly even made it worse I was accepted on to a pain management programme in feb this year having been told I was suffering from a chronic pain syndrome whilst waiting for this programme I was seen for the first time by an orthopedic surgeon regarding pins and nedles in my left hand he told me it was probably due to me using a crutch and he asked me why I used one so I told him the story and also that I still felt I hadent been examined properly so he told me to put on a gown and he will examine me within 30 seconds he told me I had a problem with a disc and 2 weeks later I had an mri scan which confirmed a l5/s1 lateral foriminal herniation with displacement of the nerve root as you can imagine after 2 years of being in constant pain and the physiotherapist lokking at me like I was stupid depression set in in (9 mnths after the accident )and im seeing a councillor for this ,im due to see a surgeon who will be performing the op if one is needed can anybody who a shared a similar experiance please reply even if its just to let me know your diagnosis took as long etc and what the outlook is im still off work with 2 young children and at times this whole thing as got the better of me and I think about doing something I know id regret as I love my children more than anything (im 30 yrs old ) thanks all

Jhn,

i notice you are in the uk. I would suggest looking into a very effective
therapy called "the trager approach", especially before you commit to
surgery. You can find information at the following url and then do a search for a practitioner. Good luck.
