Hi-it is pretty late, about midnight. But
I just found this site today and haven't
been able to get off. I have been reading
some of your passages of advise and would
like to ask you a few things. I do not
have schizophrenia myself, but my
sister-in-law was diagnosed with it about
2 months ago. She is only 21 years old
and has a 6 year old daughter. Her
daughter is currently with my husband and
I due to child neglect charges placed
against her. At the time she was thought
to be on narcotics which was proven was
not the case. My husband and I have been
asked by social services if we would be
interested in adopting the little girl,
which we stated, most definitely. My
sister-in-law has had two sych-evals which
both stated she had paranoid
schizophrenia, and she would benefit with
meds and treatment. But she would have to
admit she has a problem and want to fix
it. Also, she has no type of insurance
and doesn't qualify for medi-cal due to no
s.S. Do you know of any free or low cost
clinics for this disease? We only have
about 5 months to get her to start getting
help, or the social services can start the
next step, which would be adoption. I
know at this time she is a danger to her
daughter, not purposefully. Do you think
it is possible for her to live a healthy
and productive life with her daughter, if
she gets the right help? Also, can you
give me some advise about treatments
and/or meds that have helped you? Thanks,

Hi'
i had paranoid schizorphrenia due to
taking drugs,im fine now but I was pretty
ill with it for about 2 and a half years.
Im married but I also have 2 kids. I was
lucky to have had my husband around me, I
was never a danger to my kids or anyone
else although I was always paranoid that
my kids were gonna get taken away from me
because of the way my head actually
was.Your friend can get better wiyth help
from a doctor and the right medication and
yes she can lead a normal life with her
child, she just needs help just now.I'm
not to sure you should adopt her little
girl though, is there anyway you can look
after her on a short term basis. It may
not help the mother to know that her
little girls been adopted and she may
actually go deeper into her illness.
Strees can worsen the effects of mental
illnesses like these.I hope you work
things out and that your friend comes
through this ordeal.
