Well some of you mite know im in my 28wk. I got a late start on the whole pregnancy thing being as I didnt find out till I was 5months along already. Anyway...As you can imagine I have been playing catch up ever since.
I know I still have sometime but time also seems to be flying by. I am a first time mom and really have no clue where to start with any of this.
I have been watching some birhting shows on tv but have yet to have taken any classes or watched any offical birthing videos.
Im not sure how crucial classes are...
I also dont know where to get some vidoes...
There is something else, I have been reading what I can when I can on what to expect in pregnany and afterwards. As for my boyfriend I cant say the same...Most of what he knows I have told him from what I have read. Its not that hes not interested cause he loves her so much already...Its just that I want us both to be as prepared as possible for this journey. Any help would be great....

Hi kismit! We are on the same boat. This is also my first and I am on my 28th week. I am indeed looking forward to the last 12 weeks of my pregnancy.
I suggest you take a pre-natal class. I just started last week and our session will last for 8 weeks. It is very informative and helpful. They will cover all facts and explain the birthing process and offer a separate session for breathing and breastfeeding as well (2 addtl sessions for that). You get to meet other mums as well. The pre-natal class is advisable from 27 - 28th week onwards. Husbands are encouraged to join the session in order for them to understand what we go through and what to expect and to do when the time comes.
I also have 2 books that I constantly read;
1. What to expect when you are expecting
2. New babycare book a practical guide to the first 3 yrs by Dr. Mirriam stoppard
glucose test is normal to be done during the 28th week. If you haven't done it, please ask your dr about it.
Blood test for anemia will also be required on your 7th month as well.
Urine test is done every visit to your Dr.

Well, that's all I can share so far. Things I went through and scheduled to go through. Hope this helps.

Hi kismit,

wow, I didn't realize that you didn't know you were pregnant until you were 5 months along!
I agree with first time mum's suggestions about taking classes and getting books. I like to read magazines (american baby, parents, fit pregnancy) as well. If you're in the same boat as my husband and I are- not sure about spending the money for classes, I suggest you rent videos from your local library sinces it's free. Make the time! My husband works hard and he takes it home with him as well, so one night I just made him watch a lamaze video with me. It included the birthing process and when he watched it, he realized how much you go through when giving birth. His eys got big and he turned to me and said, "honey, take the drugs!!" lol. It freaked me out too. But i, like you, pass all the info on to my husband that I take in, just bc he's so busy. You just have to make him sit down and take the time to absorb info.

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so very much ladies. I really appreciate all the advice you have given me. I have had the gluocose test already and the results came back good. My blood type is a- so I had to get the rhogam shot. Other then that all is healthy so far.

I think i'll definately do that...Rent a videos or two so we can see hats gonna happen together. He works alot too and rarely has lots of free time. Its been ok so far because ive been able to most of what need to be done on my own. I mean he is definately there for all our doctors appointments and loves going. I am just nervous baout the whole l&d part and I know that I am really gonna need him to be my core through this last stretch. I want us both to be intuned and involved and work as a team to deliver her. Yikes 12wks left....

I wanna do it as natural as I can. I dotn wanna op for drugs unless its truely unbareable for me. I know there are different options as far as the drugs go.
Do you girls know the difference between them? Do you know which is recommended as the better choice?
I just want the l&d to go smoothly meaning no complications...And for her to be as healthy as possible.

Thanks again ladies

Hi ladies,

to answer your question, kismit, there are many drugs used during labor.
1. Anagelsics (pain relievers)
2. Anesthetics (substances that produce loss of sensation)
3. Ataraxics (tranquilizers)

the most common is anesthetics which is the injected into the spine - the epidural. Talk to your Dr. My Dr. Was telling me not to be disappointed if I need one. I am going to try to go natural as well, but soo many moms say this until they realize just how painful it is! (that's what i've heard from moms anyway) your Dr. Should totally respect your wishes though when it comes to the medication you do or don't want. Mine is awesome and we've discussed what I want. It's important you have that understanding with your Dr. It's never too early to talk about it.

I'm glad your glucose test came back normal! I get to find out this upcoming monday when I have an appt. If my second one came back normal- cross your fingers for me!

Have a good one,
ctrule
