Back pain symptoms may seem obvious. But do you know when symptoms of back pain are more serious or when to see a doctor? Learn what action to take & when...
I am 13 years old and found it kind of weird that I now, have back problems.
Yesterday , I reffered to the e.R. With a severe back pain. I felt stuck. I could barely get up and had sudden shocks of pain. It felt like electricity. My grandmother, uncle, and mother all suffer of back problems. (herniated disks, etc.) I wondered if this was hereditary.
My ct lumber spine:

at l4/5 there is a diffuse disk bulge just in contact with the anterior portion of the thecal sac. The thecal sac is not effaced.

Impression:
diffuse disk bulge without significant central canal stenosis at l4/5.

I am going for an mri in a week but I was wondering how can this be "cured" or what can I do about this.

Thanks,

You seem to know quite a lot about the problem already but there is so much more to learn. Do your homework, check out as many related sites as you can find, get second opinions and try not to aggrevate that area any more than need be. Talk to the doctors, nurses, p.T.'s and maybe even a chiro just to their diagnosis, then make your own judgement with the help of your family.
Best wishes. Steevo

Back Pain
Hi-i am a massage therapist and have been working with a chiropractor of pediatrics for about two years. From experience I think you might be dealing with a muscle spasm which could be caused by many different things. I would suggest you look into any chiropractors in your nieghborhood that use a tecnique with an activator (wierd word I know, but it is pretty much a little hand tool for adjusting your spine, very gentle). And also try massage, it can do wonders. I believe your to young for therapy like muscle stim or ultrasound (not picture ultrasound) your bones a still growing. Also I woundn't recommend pain medication for your problem, what that can do is cover up the problem and not fix it. And about your x-ray films, radioalogist diagnose for diseases and major problems. You should take them to a chiropractor and I bet you will get a lot more information on the alignment of your spine. Don't wait to take care of your back pain, you don't want to have major problems later like your family. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I also felt the same about the pain medications. But I couldn't get a chiropractor right away and the pain is excruciating sometimes . They bassically drugged me up at the hospital and sent me home with valium and percocet. I found it awkward because I thought valium was for anxiety but I was told that it was also used as a muscle relaxer ? I just think its too much for someone my age. I will def look into that whole chiropractor thing and stop the meds since this has calmed down . Thanks for the advice .

Pain meds. Have good and bad sides. The good side is that yes, they can take the "edge" off of the pain and with enough of them they may even get rid off the pain. Until they wear off! The bad sides seem to far out way the good, cost, addiction, they only mask the pain, side affects, etc. The meds you were given are pretty powerful and in mo. Percocet can only be prescribed in written form by a doctor, it can't just be called in. Chiropractic manipulation, as it is called around here, may not help everyone. My chiro did help me a lot with some pains, but not others. I am just thankful for his honesty to tell me what to expect before we started. If you already know that you have a bulge or rupture of the disc, "popping" your back may not be the answer, but it never hurts to ask. Steevo
