My boyfriend sent me a url from this site explaining why I should eat so and so many calories a day. I am a slightly recovered anorexic, with thoughts of starvation and caloric decrease, sometimes acting on it. I don't know if I want to act upon eating 1,500 a day. It won't feel right, and I don't think i'll be able to eat that much a day. I don't have a lot of food in my house at the moment, or money for school lunches. I'm 5'9" and I want to lose 20 pounds. I'm 150 right now. How should I do this without starvation? Thanks,

alyssa

When You Say Slightly Recovered Anorexic, What Do You Mean?
Do you mean that you used to weigh less and have gained weight? Do you mean that you are eating healthier (more) now that you realize that starvation is unhealthy? Do you mean that you are getting therapy?
Unless you literally lie in bed all day, you need to eat at least 1500 calories and probably more. More is at stake than just your actual numbers. Bad things will happen to your body and your brain below this level of calories if you restrict for a long time. You will also have a harder time of eating enough again.
I was unclear about where you are at now, in terms of better or worse. Eat at least 1500 calories though. Your body and brain will thank you. Even if doing so makes you a little heavier than you want to be, being healthy is more important than being thin.
I am refeeding at a slightly higher level. I was refeeding at 1500 calories but lost more weight so my dietician added calories that I am supposed to be eating. I have a hard time on my new diet and feel physically unable to follow it sometimes. I eat 5 times per day.
