I seem to lack the ability to feel basic emotions (happiness, sadness ect...). I feel empty, as if I don't exist. Anyone else feel the same?

I used to love my family (deep down I still do) but I find it hard to feel and show this love towards them and I feel so guilty about it.

Emotions
Hi
yes I feel the same way. I feel like im numb all over and cannot
get mself to feel any sort of nice emotion.

I know this normally passes but when you are in the middle of panic attacks/anxiety and depression its very difficult to think about anything rationally.

The guilt is one of the big things with me - you know - what if I do something wrong and people wont like me. Also feeling guilty about hurting those you love the most.

I do hope you feel better soon.
Im here if you need to talk further.

Hey guys!
I have been there....In fact still am a little right now! I am always feeling guilty of making someone mad at me or making my parents hate me.
I was in beauty school when ii started feeling all of this. I wouldnt talk to anyone I would sit in the corner and work by myself. Then one day I went and spoke with my teacher...She knew right away what was wrong with me. She has been there before. She told me to go to the Dr....So I did...She put me on effexor xr. She said I had social depression and just plain depression. I have been on it for almost 6 months now...I love it!
If I were yall I would go and talk to someone......If I didnt. I wouldnt be here today with my wonderful husdand!

I use to feel "empty" once, it was when I was completely numb.
I use to be on meds, see these days doctors are far to quick to just put on you any sort of medication!
I once use to think that I would never know what it would be like to feel happiness again.
Until I realised....The medication was doing f**k all and so I stopped, and since then I have slowly regained my emotions.
We're all different, if meds work for others then fine so be it, but the feeling of emptyness will eventually lift.

I would see a doctor, that sounds like you may have some depression,or/and anixiety(sp?),or both.
Feeling flat and can't feel emotion is all so called flat effect and that can be seen in schizophrenic people (but i'm not trying to say any of you are).
Best thing to do is to keep a chart of how you are feeling and go see a doctor and show it to him. Don't be afraid to see a doctor it's the best thing you could do.
