Q: Open Wound After Surgery

Okay so I had an open appendectomy about 3 weeks ago, I was in the hospital for 5 days w/ a fever, finally it hit 101 and they gave me tylenol. I was sent home after my fever lowered and I was home for another 5 days then one day I was getting out of the shower and the corner of my wound had opened up and was leaking a yellowish fluid.
I was seen by the surgeon who, for draining, re-opened the right side of my wound about 1 1/2 - 2 inches, the left side has an opening about 1/2 inch they stuffed my big wound w/ gauze and the little wound w/ a steri-strip. I have been having daily dressing changes at the hospital and they say the wound is healing from the inside out, and it looks clean and on the way to recovery.

My question is how long does it take for the wound to close on the outside. I have to continue to have the gauze changed until it closes, and I go back to work in 2 weeks. I am not in too much pain, I can get up and walk around, I even drive myself to the doctors everyday, but there is some pain occasionally. And I can still feel the wound. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks alot!!
