Q: Living Floaters

Something that i've noticed for many years now (i'm 38) is that not only do I get what look like tiny hairs or fibers slowly drifting down my eyeballs but I can also see what appear to be living things darting about at high speed. It's a lot like when you watch a film and you see bacteria through a microscope, swimming in a jerky random fashion. Is it just me or am I really seeing living things on my eyeball?

I've had those since I was a kid. I am now 24. My eye doctor told me what it was when I was young, I don't remember the details now but it is nothing to worry about. Alot of people have them and don't realize. You don't think about it until you notice it and then it is there all the time....But don't worry about it!

I get that too, I have a feeling most people do. It really shows up when I look into the sky like clear little microorganisms, sometimes gray, moving around.

I have the same thing and one of the spots it almost perfectly in the center of my right eye so I see it almost all the time (using a computer, driving during the day time, watching tv) and it's really annoying. My dad said it was just stuff floating around inside my eye but the spots are always in the exact same place. Since the big spot that I notice all the time is right in the middle of my right eye, if I focus on a point on a wall or something, that translucent dust partical will sit still and will always be in the exact same place. Is it a scratch on the surface of the eye, or a blood vesel? what is this thing it's driving me crazy? I've also noticed (mainly durring the daytime) these really fast bright particals shooting around like little electrons or something.

Floaters
All the strings and floaters that you see are from your vitreous fluid. If your astigmatism is bad, usually the more floaters you have since the fluid is pulled off from the odd shape of your eye (i think that is the easiest explanation). Anyway, the more the fluid breaks off and the more floaters or if your floaters suddenly change is when you should notify your opthma since that could mean you have a hole/tear in your retina.

I have had several retina detachments, my vitreous fluid has been removed so I have very few floaters. I miss seeing those strange things now. I know exactly how many floaters in each eye I have now whereas before I guessed it was dozens or hundreds.
