I'm a new user, and wanted to get some
advice on my acne situation. I have
been having acne ever since I turned
19-20. I'm 22 now.
I never had acne while I was a teenager,
etc. It all started about 2 years ago.
Earlier, I tried neutrogena, cetaphil
facewashes, but nothing worked. I also
tried steivamyicin. I then tried
minocycline (50mg) and benzaclin. I
have been using vitamin a acid
cream(treition 0.05%) for about 2-3 months
now.
The results have shown, but it has been 2
long years..
Recently, about a week ago, I started
doxycycline (100 mg) and still using the
vitamin a acid cream (tretinoin 0.05%).
My dermatologist says to visit him in
another 60 days. According to him, if
this doesn't work, i'll have to think
about acutane.
I don't have 'break-outs' anymore, but the
acne is clearly visible.
Is there any hope? Or will I always be
taking medicines/applying cremes for the
rest of my life? Also, i'm a little
skeptical about acutane. Does everyone
need it, to completely get rid of their
acne?!
Please help..
Thanks!

If female, the patient to use accutane
must be on contraceptive because it can
cause malformations in pregnancies. Did
you try benzoyl peroxide (panoxyl)? It is
also for stubborn acne cases.
A friend of mine was given a hormonal
preparation called diane35. Her skin
condition improved.

I could be totally off but it sounds a
little bit like a hormone imbalance. I
have some acne that never would go away.
I washed my face every day, tried every
cream, and nothing worked. Come to find
out my adrenal gland is over producing
hormones and the hormonal imbalance is the
source of the acne. See what your doctor
thinks.
