When our water breaks, does it ever happen slowly, over a period of time???I dont mean really slow, just like over a week or something.

If your amniotic sac gets punctured in any way, this could cause it to leak.
Some women don't even know that it is leaking. If it breaks completely you will know it

Mine started leaking at 37 weeks so at my 37 week appt. I told them I had some greenish water w/ chunks of tissue coming out but when they did the u/s my amniotic fluid was fine...

...Well at my 40 week ultrasound(i had at least one a month, they thought she was going to be 11 pounds), the tech asked me if my water had broke. I was like no, but ive been leaking and they said I was fine, she said well its not fine, theres hardly any fluid around your baby...

...Had a stress test done, and she wasnt under "stress" b/c of it, but still they scheduled a c section for me the very next morning.....

...So if your leaking abnormal amounts, make them, and I mean make them check you out thoroughly...

If I would have went overdue w/o having that u/s she could have died. I try not to think about or talk about it too much b/c I should have made them give me another u/s after I kept leaking ( I mean like pads I had to wear!)

just keep an eye out

i know a girl who had her baby 36 hours after her water broke. She had a "dry" birth...Which is very dangerous. The chances of getting an infection rises significantly. This is one of the reasons why they have this 24 hour "rule". Usually if the baby isn't born within 24 hours after her amniotic sac burst or is broken, they do a s-section.

or not.

Mine broke completely, and I never knew, there was no gush of water at all. I had my first contraction at 8:50pm, and had my daughter 2 hours later. When I got to the hospital, they said my water had already broke.

wow, i'm surprised...
I would think that if water was running down your leg, you would feel it.
Do you know if your fluid was low?

Everyone is different and you will know that your water broke.. Sometimes your water leaks out or breaks while your using the bathroom, and if you dont know what you are looking for then you will confuse yourself.. Everyone's body is different though. Some women have to have the doc. Break there bag of water.. Good luck to you though

Ok, so when I went for my appointment on fri. I told my doc that I was occasionally leaking a small amount of clear disch. He checked for pooling and did a swab and tested it to see if it was amniotic fluid. The test makes the fluid change color if it is amniotic fluid. Well, there was no pooling and it didnt change color. Then I asked him "so, it's just normal discharge or something" and he said yes...But, i'm still kinda worried cause a couple times I could feel it leaking...(like you would w/a period) but it was never constant leaking, it was on and off. And I did tell him that. What do yall think???? I'm just paranoid and want to see my baby :) or wat??? Lol

Water Breaks
My mom leaked with me for a while, but since her labor wasn't progressing at all, they just took her in to have a c-section (this was back in '86). A friend of mine had a "dry" birth because the doctor (who had be courteous through the pre-natal checkups) decided that since she was a teenager and unmarried, that means she didn't know what was going on with her. So she sent my friend home twice before admitting her for active labor. My friend ended up having to get another doctor to talk to her ob in order to get admitted to the hospital! I will never suggest that woman to anybody!

I read somewhere, that someone was asking about their water breaking in the grocery store or some other public place. The answer was that it's usually noticable, but not enough that someone else would notice it right away. Basically it was, "you'll know, but generally, nobody else will." but I don't know if it was reputable or true.

its probably just heavy vaginal discharge.. Gross I know but I already have that and im only 5 weeks pregnant. Like the other girls are saying it would smell funny and probably be a greenish color. My ob gyn explained all of this to my mom when she was pregnnant with my 4 year old sister.

Amniotic Fluid?
I thought that good amniotic fluid was was supposed to be clear and odor-less. Maybe i'm just crazy. Green seems to mean "meconium" to me.
