Hi,

i was diagnosed with ureaplasma urealyticum. I've never had unprotected sex and my partner doesn't have the infection (he was tested). I think I caught it from someone at school -- apparently it can be transmitted through coughing, sneezing.

Anyhow, i've had it for going on two years now. I saw two urologists who couldn't figure out what was wrong (did a cystoscopy urodynamics)...Finally saw a chronic fatigue doctor who thought to test for this ureaplasma urealyticum.

I've been on floxin 400 milligrams twice daily for 6 weeks. I have two weeks left on this prescription. I'm taking it exactly as prescribed, i'm very careful about it. The thing is it's not helping. I'm still having to wake up to urinate every two hours at night (as a result I am constantly fatigued, sleepy). During the day I usually go at least once an hour sometimes up to 10 times per hour (ic was ruled out in cystoscopy and also I don't have pain, just a lot of frequency). My other symptoms are incontinence, debilitating fatigue and unrefreshing sleep (as you can imagine).

I'm 25 years old and otherwise healthy. I can't get on with my life. I've had to drop out of university and most days i'm too tired to do much of anything.

Should I switch to a tetracycline drug? The doctors i've seen know nothing about how to treat this infection ! As well, my gp thinks I have oab even though lab tests keep showing ureaplasma. I would get a new doctor but this guy is just as bad as the last one.

Help! What do I do? This is a nightmare.

Go to your personal medic and told him that you need a dispatch for urine lab analyze. The results from the lab will show exactly the kind of bakteria and also to which this "animal" is resistent or not. So this way you will take the proper antibiotics.

I'm still sick with this ureaplasma. The doctors don't know what they are doing so i'm going to a specialist in new york city. It's gonna cost lots of money but at least the guy is competent from what i've heard which is more than I can say for the docs who've seen me so far (and they include 4 urologists, a gynecologist, a urogynecologist, and a neurologist).

Yeah hopefully i'll have some good news for you all soon! Only 4 days until my appointment.

I did the doxycycline and azithromycin for 1 month and noticed no improvement at all.

Indeed it is hard to find a good doctor.
My boyfriend just received(today) the suggestion from his doctor to take doxycycline (because he saw on the urine lab results that the body reacts good at this). We shall see after the treatment when he will do one more time the urine analyze.

From women point of view...To be honest no ginecologyst sent me to urine analyze (just the famyly doctor did)...So it may be possible that I have it since...I do not know when. I am waiting for my results. I will tell you what antibiotics will be okay for me.

But I think it is not mandatory for you to change the city and spent a lot of money for it....Just make that urine test to a good lab. Here, in romania this test is around 10$. A good lab will put on your results paper also the antibyogram results (to which the disease is resistant and to which it reacts).
This is my suggestion for you.

Ureaplasma Urealyticum... cont...
Have you seen a pumonalogist? Oddly enough, these things can be caused by sleep apnea, which can effect anyone at any age and can also lead to cardiovascular problems later on down the road. Also, I imagine they have you practicing your "Kegel" exercises? It's good to do them frequently through out the day every day so that you can maintain your pelvic floor muscles through out your life. Also, you may want to have your vit B-12 and Vit D checked to make sure they're not low. They tend to cause a lot of fatigue, and some people need B-12 injections because thier body's won't absorb it any other way. Good Luck!

Ureaplasma Urealyticum
I had ureaplasma urealyticum and though my boyfriend insisted he was faithful, he finally admitted he cheated. He tested positive too. I took Zithromax, not the generic brand, 2 pills the first day and one pill per day for 5 days, I then tested negative one month later. Still have the yellow discharge. Will hope it goes away. As far as the urine problem, I had intersticial cystitis which is what it sounds like you have. I saw a Dr. Gerridzen at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa, this was like 15-20 years ago. He helped me. I had a garlic like solution inserted into my bladder and had to hold it for 20 mins. then express in the bathroom. I peed constantly before that and it was unbearable. I saw a chronic fatigue specialist who suggested I must have chronic fatigue. The thing is that when you don't sleep well and you worry, it exhausts you. Also stay away from any citrus juice or fruits, chocolate, I know that sucks, but it is important and don't drink pop. Drink green tea to detox and spring water, no tap water. This will help for sure. Good luck. Try the Zithromax, forget about the other stuff that isn't helping. Throw it out. Give yourself a chance once the Zithromax dose is finished, wait one month, retest, if still positive, do the Zithromax again, then one month later retest, if still positive, you will need to see a specialist. Contact the best there are...Toronto has some of the best specialists in North America. St. Michael's Hospital. Chief of Gyneocology, Ghylaine Lefebvre. She is amazing. Start getting regular relaxation massage and try some natural vitamins, see a naturopath...you will be amazed. Good luck. Dee. Surprised)
