Do I Have Agrophobia Yet? Should I Quit Work? Posted: 10-11-05 22:16pm
Hay guys!
I have just been diagnosed with panic
disorder 5 weeks ago and I cant work out
wheather I actually have agrophobia yet.
I have been going to work casually for
13hrs a week and going to university for
10 weeks since ive been having panics
attacks.
It has been hard tho and I no I cant stop
and fall into any avoidance patterns.
I live on north stradbroke island in
australia and have to travel on aboat for
an hr a day, and drive for 2hrs+ aswell,
in order to get to uni and work.
I find this very very challenging!!!!!
I also avoid hanging out with my friends
as I think it would be hard to escape the
situation if I panic does this mean I am
agrophobic?

Hi
i`ve been suffering from anxiety for a
while now and at first I was quite
apprehensive about going out and being on
my own which is a form of agrophobia.
However don`t let it get hold of you
keeping yourself busy and not avoiding
situations is the best way to over come
it.
I`m not at work at the moment but thats
because I have me and can`t work. It does
help when you have a good support network
at home or friends. I have tried the
linden method and other things so if you
want any information or advice just send
me a private message and i`ll try to send
you some stuff!
Good luck

I don't think not wanting to hang out with
your friends it makes you agrophobic.
It's scary to think of friends seeing us
when we panick and what they would think
of us and how they would react. If they
are true friends, it won't matter to them
and they will try and help in any way they
can.
As far as work goes...I wouldn't want to
travel that far either! Can you look for
a job closer to home?

Try Not to Lable Yourself Posted: 04-15-06 06:23am
Im my experience the more you try to
analyse how you feel the more you are
confiming to your brain that it is very
real and the stronger the feelings get.
Try not to put a lable such as
"agoraphobic" on what you are feeling.
Dont make a decision to stop
work/college/university etc.... Just
carry on with your life and take each day
as it comes, do what ever you feel
comfortable with each day then push
yourself just a little bit futher.
Just because one day you feel unable to do
a particular thing dont then decide to
yourselfthat you are now unable to do that
thing or go to that place ever. It isnt
true, its only you that will be worsening
your condition if you think like that.
Ok so who am I to say all this? Well I
the person that did it all the wrong way
for 5 years at the worst of it I was
unable to even open my front door let
alone step out of it. Ive been through
the horrendous nightmare and finally
realised where I was going wrong and am
now on way to getting my life back. By
the way try the linden method it really
helps!!
Hope ive been of use to anyone who reads
this. Dont give up - you will get better
:o)
