I went to the doctor regarding a lump in my stomach....She made me an appointment with a general surgeon. In my opinion I think I have a hernia. Could she not just tell me that is what she thinks it is, or does it have to be the surgeon who tells me? Or is it just a giant cash-grab?? Lol I go for my appt on thurs, so I can wait to find out the answer...Just wondering if anyone knows why she wouldn't offer her opinion,,,

Hi andrea46~

my guess is she doesn't want to say what it is if she is not sure and scare you if she is wrong. Did you have some kind of test that you think it is a hernia? What makes you so sure it is a hernia? I think your doctor is doing the right thing by not saying if she doesn't know for sure.

It's just my opinion.

Usually gp's (genral practioners) wiil send you to a sugeon if they think it is something you will need surgery for. There for she probably thinks it is a hernia which would need to be taken care of via surgery. Hope I could help nurse chick
