I know this is a broad question , but
which is the "best" type of health
insurance because from what I am seeing it
is the fee for service but are certain
hmo's as good or just have a bad rap..
Or ppo ????
Input please...
Thanks

You need to assess your needs before
picking an insurance. I think a
misconception of hmos is that they cover
less, but that is not true. Hmos are
usually less out of pocket, which is good.
The drawback is that you have no out of
network benefits and all of your care
needs to be coordinated by your pcp (ie
can't see a specialist without a
referral). If you like the freedom of
being able to stay in and out of network
and no referrals, then a fee for service
plan is for you, but it'll cost a little
more money. And, if you go out of
network, it'll be subject to your
deductible and coinsurance. In short,
going out of network will cost you more
money. Hope this helps!

Greetings:
in a nutshell, there is no "best" health
insurance; rather, it's whatever works
best for you. Hmos are great for growing
families, but you cannot go outside of
your network (unless it's for a medically
necessary emergency visit, where medically
necessary is determined by the hmo, not
you).
Ppos offer more flexibility in that you
can go outside of a network, albeit the
insurance will cover less. You should,
however, read the fine print, as
some ppos won't cover out of network.
There are also other insurance companies
that don't have networks: you can go to
any doctor, any hospital.
