Q: Anxiety About Colon Cancer

My girlfriend seems at risk to colon cancer and has been having some unusual problems lately. Her mother died from colon cancer when my girlfriend was very young. The problems she has been experiencing have all happened within the past week. It started with slightly bloody stools, and she has had a pain in the left side of her abdomen directly between her rib cage and pelvic bone. She has had this pain for a week basically since she told me about her bloody stools. Yesterday when we were having sex she told me that when I touched a spot inside her vagina she was having the pain flare up in the same spot on the left side of her abdomen. We have arranged a doctor's appointment, but I wanted to see if I could relieve some of my anxiety about this.
