Addressing An Expectant Mother's Fears Posted: 10-10-05 08:42am
I am just curious to know how many other
expectant mothers worry like I do? I
worry about the baby not developing as it
should. Does he/she have 10 fingers and
10 toes? Does he/she have any birth
defects? Is his/her internal organs
developing as they should?
I worry about all these things, and I know
I will continue to worry until I get my
first ultrasound. Maybe even longer,
depending on how much we are able to see
with it.

I did that and trust me, it doesnt change
when they are born! Just think good
thoughts, you and the baby will be fine.

I worry a lot too, and I have read it's
normal to be worried a lot about how the
baby is developing. Just so you know I
think most expectant mothers worry, and
you are not alone :)

The only advice I can give is dont
research sids, in ottawa we have nurses
who come and visit you after you have a
child. She kept telling me if I didnt do
this my child could die of sids etc etc
scared the cr@p out of me. The best
thing to do like pregnancy is too take in
all the info but use what you want
never ever feel guilty, if your stressed
take a break even if it means putting ur
kid in a crib for 15 and just ignore
everyone else
congrats and good luck

I try not to worry so much, but I find my
mind wandering back to such questions
every other hour. My next appointment
isn't until the 28th. During that
appointment I am scheduled to have a
sonogram to check on a possible cyst on my
ovary. The doctor never told me when I
can expect my first true ultrasound for
the baby. I am assuming that with this
sonogram on the 28th that they will check
baby while they are at it? I guess maybe
I need to start asking some questions.

I am sure that is when they will be
checking on baby. Also depends on how far
along you are to. How far along are you?
Questions are very good to ask. I have
been writing them down when I think of
them so I don't forget to ask my doctor.
I have my first ultrasound in november.
That is still kind of a wait for me yet.
I hope everything goes well when you have
yours.

There is an exact one week difference
between how far along the doc says I am,
and how far along I think I am. If I go
by the first day of my last period, I am
exactly 13 weeks today. The doc would say
that I am 12 weeks today.

Hello congrats on your pregnancy :d I am
also on my 12th week (2nd child) and like
you, I do worry too much! I get paranoid
with silly things too. I had all my tests
(blood tests, ultasound ) done and
although everything seemed ok and my babys
got the perfect cardiac activity saw him
move!!!, my head is still filled with
"what ifs". Believe me it drives me and
my husband mad. Ive read that its got
something to do with hormones (mood swings
etc.)
i think at the end of the day we have to
look unto life's bright side that we were
able to conceive and give life :d and try
to have a happy disposition(ill try as
well) as the baby could absorb it
good luck!!!

interesting you mentioned it. Actually
was doing a research 'bout it yesterday
and discussed it with my husband last
night. This "sids" thing is scaring me a
lot! Its just great my husband is always
there to re-assure me that the baby will
be fine and not to worry 'bout it. I
just try and keep positive thoughts during
my pregnancy. And if something really
bothers me (seriously), I will ring my Dr.

It is completely normal to feel that way.
I always thought there could be something
wrong and sids was and still is (my son
will be 4 months next friday) a scary
thing to me. I have a great baby moniter
though that if the baby stops breathing
the moniter goes off. It's a lil
annoying when I get up to feed him at 4 in
the morning and forget to turn it off and
the alrm goes off and bf wakes up and says
"he's not breathing!!!!!!" uh, no honey
he's fine just forgot to turn it off.
Hee hee
my son fell last week and hit his head and
I freaked out "what if he's retarded
now?, what if he's slow now, etc..." I
wouldn't let him go to sleep or anything.
Hes fine, doesn't even have a bump and
i've been told by everyone I know that
it's the first of many falls. When I was
pregnant for like the last 2 months I
would wake up saying "what if...." my bf
thought I was nuts. I had a great
pregnancy, a not so great delivery and my
son is an extremelly healthy, smart, happy
boy. He can sit up by himself, he can
roll over, he can play and weighs
20lbs!!!!!! And not even 4 months
yet-lol
yes being preggy paranoid (as I call it)
is completely normal. I think it would
be abnormal if we didn't worry.

I can't wait until that first true
ultrasound that shows details.
I think maybe part of the worry is coming
from my sister-in-law. She got pregnant
about 2 months before me and is to be due
around february 18th. Everything seemed
to be going fine with her pregnancy up
until she was about 15 weeks. They then
discovered that there was too little
amniotic fluid. The baby is not
producing/recycling it's own urine as it
should. The fluid is basically just
accumulating inside the baby. At least
that is how she explained it. She is now
about 21 weeks along, and they still don't
know the fate of their baby. They could
lose it at any time.
