Re: I Have Almost Stopped Eating

Sad

it's really interesting to read over the posts so far, as I can relate to a lot of your stories.

I have always had stomach upsets, and been sensitive to fatty foods, which like many of you was attributed to ibs (before any tests had been done to rule out anything seriuos).

However, over the last couple of years, and increasingly over the last six months, things have gotten a lot worse. I have had every test you can imagine, have taken many medications including nexium and flagyl. Apparently there is nothing wrong with me - I am perfectly healthy.

I am afraid to eat. I am losing 2-3 kilos per week, because I cannot bear the thought of the repercussions of ingesting food. I eat smaller meals than my 6 year old, and I am starting to worry. I don't mind losing weight, but not under these circumstances.

I am 28, and I smoke - I don't drink often

my symptoms are:

** upper mid-abdomen pain and pressure, especially after eating, and lying on my back.

** (pocket of gas?) underneath rib cage on left side

** gastric reflux - although I think this is a symtom of the symptom... Stomach has skrunk considerably and cannot tolerate much food.

I cannot bring myself to believe that it's stress related, or in my head. I have a course of steroids I haven't started yet - specialist thinks it 'may' be chrohns disease, but I doubt this will work either. I don't know what to do anymore really... I am becoming depressed, and possibly perpetuating the symptoms because of this.

When I read this post I instantly joined, I had to speak with you.

I myself have been sick off and on with this problem since Easter. I thought I was getting really sick and went to see my doctor, thinking something may be wrong with my gallbladder. She told me I was getting the flu. Later that night I ran a temp and I got very sick. Vomiting and diarrhea. I couldn't eat and had terrible pain under my rib cage, centrally located to my chest. I went through a GI Specialist, but got the same healthy diagnosis you did. After 4 days of not eating a thing, just water, I finally began to eat again. I dropped 30 lbs in one months time. Finally, after a no fat, no soda, minimal ciggs diet I began to feel better.

Just this last weekend I killed a 12pack of diet coke. It made me sick all weekend and I had bad pain under the left side of my rib cage all day today. If I stick to a healthy diet low in meat and stay away from soda I feel pretty normal.

I am wondering if you pass gas at all? Because I do so very seldom, and think that may be related to this problem.

to all
Long story short, I had all the symptoms most of you had, it turned out just like someone else said in all these posts that it was Celiac Disease. Get checked pronto, it is so under-diagnosed! Read up on it and push your doc to get a blood test done asap!

I have had similar problems as everyone else here. I had pain on my right side, behind the ribs. It was very tender to touch, had excessive gas and heartburn, also headache. Went to doctor and tried meds, had ultrasound done also. No luck.
I decided to try a few things on my own, and after i quit drinking coffee, lo and behold, I felt fine, no pain, no gas or heartburn, and headache was gone. I kid you not, took about a week for me after quitting the coffee. "What a relief".
All I can say is it worked for me, and if you try it, I hope it works for you. Good luck!!!

Pain in left side, under rib cage. Varying from side to side.
I am also expirencing the same type of pain. It's in the left side, mid-section, underneath the rib cage kinda.. It comes and goes from left side to right. Everytime I breath in I can feel it in my upper shoulders too.. also in my stomache.. my bowel movements are fine, no discoloration.. my weight is remaining the same as always.. no nausea or vomiting.. everything is fine, but just this nagging pain.. I also had a baby September 11th/2009, would this have something to do with it? I haven't went to see a doctor yet. I'm taking tylenol and other pain meds to see if it will ease off, therefore I don't have to go to the doctor and get useless information that more then likely wont help!

A few nights back, I twisted some which way and ever since then I've been feeling this sort of pain.. someone please help me and let me know if your having the exact type of pain.. thanks.
