What is an ice-pick headache? I have similar symptoms but also feel the "pins and needles" sensation in my head. Is that what you are talking about?

I'm thirteen years old, and I'm feeling the exact same symptoms. My mom keeps making me take ibuprofen, but I don't think that will help. If I do have anxiety or losing spinal fluid, how can I tell her this?

An ice-pick headache is a sharp pain in a specific part of the head that is quite severe but usually lasts for only a few seconds. On the headache forum somebody said that this was due to insufficient blood supply to the area of pain. Sounds bad doesnt it...

Have you found anything else out related to this head throbbing? I have had three occurences (lasted about a day each time) of a similar feeling in the past month. I have tmj so I thought it might be related to that? However, when I have these episodes, standing will bring on a throbbing pain in the back left portion of my head... The throbbing only lasts for a couple seconds but is uncomfortable. I also experience a dull pain in my left ear that occurs with the head pain. Just let me know if you have found anything. I also have an extreme amount of upper back and neck tension and I always crack my neck... Which is probably horrible for it!

I havent found anything yet but everyone just seems to think that its related to stress and anxiety, as I also have upper back, shoulder and neck tension and have this weird clicking in my neck. The only thing that will put my mind to ease is if I have an mri or my head and neck... Ill soon speak to my consultant about it and try to organise one soon... I get all of them symptoms that you have described above aswell but mines always there... I wonder if its high blood pressure, a neck injury or tmj, im just not sure...

For the last two weeks i've been suffering with very, very sharp head pain which feel like someone is stabbing a needle are a icepick in my temple right over my right eye but closer to my scalp. Certain things trigger the pain ex. A loud noise, excitement, breathing too hard, waking up in the morning, coughing, laughing, telephone ring, music, using the phone or computer, thinking or calculating numbers, I dont know what to ease the pain, pain killers are not working no matter what dose.

Your symptoms seem very similar to mine. When I tell doctors that I have a clicking in my neck, they look at me like I am crazy. I had the MRI and even though they found some problems, they are choosing to "just wait to see what happens." I am being tossed from doctor to doctor and pain meds don't work. I was out of work for 6 weeks and I just started back, but the pain has been so bad, I may have to go back on medical leave. I feel so hopeless and ready to give up. I hope you find relief because I haven't found any.

I have a sever head throb on both sides of my temples. when i get up from sitting down or look up from reading. Inside my head it sounds like a helicoptor propellar going around and around. I ahve to hols my head because it feels like my brain is pulsating too fast and might burst. it is geetin worse anyone know what this is. i do not suffer from anxiety or stress.

emiliac, i would go to the doctors, they can help and hopefully its nothing bad.

i have (and had) all these symptoms for the past 2 years, and i suffered from major anxiety/stress. i was scared to go to the doctors cuz my anxiety..silly i know.
and a recent visit to the ER (anxiety attack) showed me that i have no health problems and that its all in my head, crazy what your mind can do to your body, as i looked up more symptoms to heart disease and etc i would gain more and more symptoms, idk if anyone is experiencing this but stress and anxiety is CRAZY and it can actually cause major fear and more. hope all is well, i still suffer from anxiety when i excercise cuz my head throbs sometimes, but its anxiety induced not highbloodpressure.

I have had depression and anxiety and still do every once in a while, it only last like a month but then I'm back to my happy self, but I crack my neck and all that(I know its bad) and if i arch my back an roll my neck i get this pain like something bursted in the back of my head near my neck, Or if i laugh hard, just asking for some advice, an yes Jesus saves JesusSaves777!

well for the past 2 months a have really bad twitching in my legs and throbbing in the back of my head none stop... I been to the doctor and tired of going... diffirent meds all the time I have nothing wrong with me...BUT if its anxietywhy does your body physically feel like there is something worng... I have no clue what to do any more!!

I have also had the throbbing pain in the back top part of my head. It only lastsa few seconds, then goes away,but it feels so sharp!! I have been under tremendous stress, so who knows what this is?

I have experienced this & found it to be related to an alkaline or acid inbalance, once i alkalize my system through my nutrition i find it goes away. Also need to have a good hydration plan with the right balance of unprocessed natural salt & water so that i not only remain correctly hydrated but am recieving the correct balance of minerals which can be depleted if just having lots of water on it's own!

Hmmm, this sound like what i have. Its started around 5 months ago with a ear infection that turned into vertigo, that was scary enough!! but around 2 months ago i was abroad on buisness and had a severe panic attack, follow by bad wind and acidic feeling in the stomach and heart burn. This lasted 24-36 hours after a trip to the doctors and some pills to resolve the acidic feeling.
This weekend another bad turn this time my BP went up to 180/110 (normally its around 120/80)Acid reflux the ears popping, ice pick headache then disappears. I haven't been to the doctors but feel this is a stomach ulcer that makes me panic when this causes reflux and heartburn, this then causes stress and anxiety waiting or dreading the next turn!!

I have throbbing sensations in my head as soon as wake some mornings.It stops but it's been getting worse a to where my vision is blurred I also have cramps on the left side of my stomach.Do think these are symtoms for parasites.

Ice-pick headache seems to be the exact thing i have, does this mean it could get worse? or could it just go away on its own after a matter of time? or should i go to the doctor and get medication?

It is really weird reading this as i was really ill over xmas 2008, dizzy, poundimg head when i get up suddenly and when i exercise. i have also a small dull pain in one ear and sharp pains behind my ear. I have been seeing a consultant as i thought it was sinus linked but this last few weeks i have had anxiety problems and so i wonder if it could be that.

I did wonder if it was balance problems but i have had a ct scan and am still waiting to see the consultant to discuss the results and really its the punding head that i get when i stand that really annoys me and worries me.

I would love to know why it happens

i keep getting an ice pick headache just 2 inches above and to the left of my left eye, at the deepest part of that indent in the skull.. it was feared that my skull was fractured there 2 years ago. these headaches (i would just describe them as brain pains really, theyr nothing like a headache) only last a few seconds, then usually come back within 10 seconds but not as bad, and dissappear just as quickly.
this happens once every few days, some days just once, some days up to 6 or 7 times..

once ever 4 or 5 days i will have a second or half a second where i forget where i am and what im doing, but not in a casual way.. more of a freaky way, like it shouldnt be happening.
i also keep making very strange spelling mistakes that i wouldnt normally make, that seem to revolve around how a word could sound.. i have allways been brilliant at spelling, and i make mistakes now like elefant, or kross.. i dont even notice unless i read what i typed.

i also have a very stiff upper back, but mostly its the neck.. and on the right side of it more so. and i have also had a lot of problems from my back in recent years, though only saw a doctor for it once, and was reffered to a rheumatologist which i cant afford to see yet.

i suspect a slipped disk among other problems.
in addition, i sleep on my left.. allways. if that makes a difference lol..

I've been having a throbbing head for a while now. When it gets really bad, I experience ADD-like symptoms, can't stand loud noises, and lose my emotional calm, i.e. I snap at people, like I have no control over my emotions anymore, at times I get dizzy. It's really weird. First I thought it was hormonal. My family physician put me on antibiotics, an antifungal, and probiotics to see if it was a sinus infection or candida. Didn't help. Then he referred me to an osteopath to check my neck. The osteopath said my atlas (1st cervical vertebra) was really jammed. She has been working on my neck and cranial bones once a week for 30 minutes. I get temporary relief and then it all comes back. Now I'm also seeing a NUCCA chiropractor (specializes in upper neck) to have my atlas adjusted. Seems that the atlas misalignment, probably for decades, is the key to all my weird symptoms. I don't know if this will help anyone, but it's worth checking out. I've been hit in the head a lot in my life, including a bike crash. Nothing major, just a few "minor" concussions. The osteopath and chiropractor think I'm nuts when I say "minor". Apparently, all closed head injuries have the potential to wreak a lot of havoc. At least make sure they check your atlas.

I was having the same symptoms as many of you thrubbing pulptation from eighter side of my head with enormous preassure in my head when I twist my neck it pops no sleep for meany nights and when I do just for an hour medication dont help they make it worst after many panic attack and 3 emegencry hospital visit and 6 doctor visits ct scan, ent specialist xray in 6 weeks I almost give up on life because no doctors knows what it was I try every thing that I could and the following work for me

vicks VaporRub and eucalyptus in a bowl of hot water (not boiling) I cover my head and inhale the steam in 3 days I was free again now I know it all cause from dust dus dus was in my head.
Its not the usual sinus symtoms as it does not affect so much the fore head and that is why mine was impossible for the Doctors to diagnose In my short time I was treated for headace, depression, Anxiety , Stress and all manner of things with no luck in fact with treatment My head was getting worst

i have been suffering from sharp quick pain on both sides of my head, these pains only last for a few seconds,before i can take medication they are gone. i also have throbbing in back of my head. i have been under alot of stress my blood pressure even elevated. i had pain in both eyes. after visiting an optomologist i found out i have enlarged optic nerves which he states could cause the headaches. if anyone have any advice please provide

I've been getting headaches and they have been lasting 3 days the first day is the worse i have to say in bed it starts behind my eyes then goes to the top of my head, then goes down the side of my head in my ear and ends up at my neck. i also suffer from anxiety and stress and im on tablets for this but find they can bring my headaches on. the tablets the doc gave me for the headaches help but don't take it away fully. he's sending me for a hospital check up in September so hopefully they can help..
