Q: Recurrent Yeast Infections...i've Had Enough!! Advice Please

I'm so frustrated. I never had one until I started having intercourse in march '05. Since then i've had 6!!!

I went to my gyno about this in august and she gave me a list of things I shouldn't do (like stop wearing thongs or shaving. I've been doing those things for over 5 years without a problem! I honestly don't believe those thing are to blame but she doesn't listen.)

how can I make her understand that i'm tired of using otc products every month, being in complete discomfort, and this is something that is taking away from my sex life (my period already does for 7 days, and these y.I. Are taking away another 7 days which is really frustrating).
I don't think any woman should have to put up with this for so long!!! Honestly there has to be a better solution.

Does anyone have any advice? Have any of you had recurrent yeast infections and have you found something that's helped? I'm desperate!

(i should also note that i've been tested for std's twice this year, in march and august, and that i've only had intercourse with my current boyfriend.)

Have you tried having your partner tested for yeast infections, men can carry and pass them easily b/c they tend to go undetected. Are you sure it's a yeast infection? All through high school, even though I wasn't sexually active, my doctors kept telling me I was getting yeast infections, come to find out it was vaginal bacteriosis, I got them after my period, it was clock work. Another thing, try eating more yogurt, or products with yogurt in them. Also, they say that is the best cure, so if you're tired of it, stock up on plain yogurt, dab your tampon in it and insert, I know that sounds disgusting, but they say that works quicker then any otc medicines you can get.

Those can be good ideas but you can get a second opinion from another doc or talk to your pharmacist. Good luck!

Thanks
I'm pretty sure it's yeast. I know three of the times it was yeast for sure but I didn't get checked for the last two, I just got the otc like my gyno said. When I visited my gyno in august I asked about having my boyfriend treated but she said that it was 'very unlikely we were infecting eachother'. She's a stubborn woman. Oh and I do eat yogurt, 3 days a week, maybe that's not enough? I just don't know anymore.

Thanks for the advice you two. I'm making an appointment with my gyno monday and if she just gives me the usual I will for certain get a second oppinion because this is just ridiculous!

If anyone else has had a problem like this, i'd like to hear about it and what made it better.
