Wow it is refreshing to see so many young
people with these problems. I myself am
almost 20, and am experiencing these
problems. I have yet to get tested, but
this has made me feel that it is time to
do so. I have lived with this problem for
3 years and honestly I am ready for an
end. Most of my doctors put me on acid
reflux medicine which does nothing for me.
This time my doctor is having me come in
this week, because he suspects my
gallbladder....I just hope in the end I
can come out pain free and live the rest
of my life with ease

I had laparoscopic surgery for
endometriosis (my third surgery) earlier
this year, and woke up in the recovery
room with severe right upper quadrant
pain. Subsequently was admitted to
hospital for a week with severe pain, and
ended up having a second surgery a month
later (same surgeon) to check for
adhesions that may have developed in first
surgery. He found nothing, and the pain
remains. After several different
specialists, I saw one who referred me for
a nuclear scan of my gallbladder. You
guys all talk about ejection fractions,
but my scan did not get to that stage.
After an hour and a half, when my
gallbladder had still not filled, they
sent me home saying there was no need to
go any further and have the cck infusion
or anything as my gallbladder was
obviously not functioning. Did anyone
else have a delayed uptake like this? Do
you know what it means?

Hi,
there is a huge link for some people
between estrogen and gb disease. I
started estrogen therapy (i am 25, 5'5",
145lbs and healthy) for ovarian cysts and
in a few months my gb started wigging out.
Ejection fraction 14% - and I got off
the estrogen, retested later and it went
back up to 26% - not perfect but I had
only been off for a few days at that
point. I have been off for a few weeks
now and fatty things don't bother me much
any more. My gi doc says to have it out
before I get pregnant because the estrogen
level when you are pregnant will also
trigger gb disease if you are prone to
it.
Interesting.

Re: the Gall Bladder Issue Posted: 11-16-05 18:00pm
Hi, I am not 23 anymore (31), but I have
recently come down with some problems too.
My stomach produced an excess of acid
along with gas. I first tried antacids,
and then became very scared when I had a
bad pressure in my lower intestines. The
acid felt like it was rolling all over my
muscles at night, in the morning I would
be really weak. I have also developed a
rash on my neck that seems to get flared
up when the acid in my stomach does. The
doctor has assurted me I won't "die".
Although I feel like I am at times. I was
put on aciphex 20 mg, and it works just a
little bit. My hide scan came out 17.2%
and I have talked to one surgeon so far.
She recommended that I have my gallbladder
taken out, andasked her what would happen
if I decided not to. She simply said that
I would have to live with the pain! Well
there is no pain other than the stomach
producing all the acid and gas!
anyway, I feel your frustation. It turns
out I may have something going on in the
uterus. I have very watery periods w/
clotting. I do not have cramps though. I
know someone said something about
endometriosis and the gallbladder had a
link. Please ellaborate if you have had
these symptoms..

Gall Bladder Surgery Posted: 02-08-06 20:10pm
Wow, it is so great to find a sight where
young women have similar problems as me.
I am a 22 year old and have had major
digestive issues for about 8 months. Had
every test done too.. H.Pylori, endoscopy
(they were sure it was an ulcer because I
had black stools on one occasion when I
had to go to the emergency room.) after
all these tests came back negative, I was
more frustrated than ever, especially
after my gastroenterologist told me it
would probably settle with time. Over
christmas, I had extreme nausea (not the
kind where you throw up and it goes away
though) followed by severe stabbing upper
abdominal pains. My dad immediately
looked at me, and said "your gallbladder"
we went to the er and had ultrasound, no
stones of course. I was again so
frustrated. The attack was very severe,
lasting 3 days. I thought it would never
end. Iwas on percecet to get any rest
from it. My mom told me to ask the
doctor for a hida scan. I did this and I
am sooo glad I did. I think it must be
an underused test because my doctor did
not think to order it for me until I
suggested it. The results showed that my
gallbladder was not functioning at all.
0% at the time of the test.... I have had
one more attack since then, but there is
very little that I allow myself to eat,
because eveythign seems to make me sick in
some way. So i'm scheduled for surgery on
monday!! My surgeon made met hink twice
about the surgery which I found troubling.
She said there was a 50% chance, I getall
better, a 75% percent chance I get
somewhat better and 15% chance things get
worse??!! I 'm soo hopeful that the
surgery will relieve my symptoms. Any
tips for how to regulate your digestive
system after gall bladder surgery?

Gallbladder And Adhesions Posted: 03-10-06 10:44am
Hi everyone- I thought that this might
help some out there....
My past history includes three natural
births, a few laps for cysts and
endo...Hysterectomy (ovaries and tubes
left) due to uterus collapsed on
bowel.(2002)
everything fine until 2 years ago...Severe
pain under right rib and sternum radiating
into back and shoulder ( severe pain to
take a breath).Went to er...Work up with
gi endoscope(to rule out ulcer) and many
blood tests for gallbladder function/
liver enzymes etc and ultrasound and few
other tests....The only thing that showed
up was a larger than normal gallbladder
but they said could be normal....Liver
gallbladder blood work normal. I was
kept in for 5 days i.V. Pain meds (lots
of pain!!)finally went home waiting for a
specialized mri for bile duct. Pain
slowly subsided after 2 weeks - mri was
fine. F/u with gi - he said maybe just
irritable bowel ( ok.....).
Was fine until last july
longweekend...Same pain again all
day.......Worse and worse until I couldn't
breathe without sharp pain into shoulder
again and under rib cage right side.
Went to er all tests again in
hospital....Only thing again was large
gallbladder size...And they saw something
on my liver that was of concern I was in
for 10 days this time... Severe pain
especially in sternum area and under rib
cage even to breathe. I begged to go
home with pain meds and they were refering
me to a general surgeon. (bad mistake to
go home ) consult wasn't until
october!(this was july!) pain remained
for 5 weeks pain meds just took the edge
off...Ended up in emerg mid august -
general surgeon was on call and said she
doesn't do look sees...But would consider
taking gallbladder because pain pointed to
that....Had surgery nextr morning!!!!!Ah
hah!!!! She said she was excited (glad
for her!!) to find pathology...The outside
of my gallbladder was compltely covered in
adhesions (possible endo) and was stuck to
my duodenum. Took longer than usual to
recover from surgery especially in sternum
area...But not too bad. Iguess because
they had to scrape things away.
Been great since until 2 months ago...They
think maybe endometriosis has attached to
that fresh scarring so I have been cycling
last 2 months in pain (probably from
bleeding tracking into pelvic floor)...But
that's the joy of endo....As far as
gallbladder thing though that has been
fine
make sure you don't give up if you know
something is not right. It took them 2
years for me...Tests really didn't show
anything...They needed to go in and
look!!!
Best of luck everyone!

I am not quite as young as some of you, im
34 and have been having pain under my
right and left ribcage as well as left
back pain since dec. Since then I have
had 2 catscans, hida scan, endoscope,
ultraound, barium xray. The only thing
they can find (besides a liver
hemangioma...Which they say could not
cause this pain) is my gallbladder is only
functioning at 30% (hida scan w/cck). I
have seen 2 drs, a gi specialist and
surgeon and they all recommend taking it
out. The pain is getting worse as time
goes on, even with a major diet change to
nothing but lean chicken, turkey and fish,
bread, pasta, oil and veggies. I had a
baby 8 mo ago and pg can really destroy a
gb, so guessing that is what did it). I
am really nervous about surgery, but cant
keep living with this pain.

I have been having pain, bloating and
nausea for the past 3 years and finally my
Dr. Has found that my gallbladder
ejection fraction is 11%. I am having
surgery next week, and am a nervous wreck
about it, but hope that my symptoms will
be resolved. Recently I was told by a gi
Dr. That it may not be my gallbladder ,
but some spasticity of my stomach. Now I
wonder if I should get a second opinion.
Has anyone been told this before they have
had surgery? Please let me know, since I
just want the symptoms to go away.

Help. I Am New At This. Posted: 07-31-06 14:08pm
I am 23 years old and after years of
having problems and having a doctor tell
me that it was the chemical in the air
that react to my body that was making me
sick, I finally got some kind of answers.
I have had all the test done. Blood
work, endo, colon, ultra sound, and hida
scan. My doctor told me it was my
gallbladder and it was working 34% below
normal. I am not even sure what that
means. So my doctor put me on this
medication that I have to take twice a
day. It is called urso forte. I guess
he doesn't want to remove the gallbladder
just yet. I guess my question is, what
kind of symptoms was everyone having. I
would get my attacks at night. I would
get this pain right below my bra line in
the middle. But it would start off with
the chills/shakes, then it was the pain,
then I would either throw up, or go out
the other end, or I would do nothing and
be up for most of the night. Did
everyone else have the same thing?

Life Without a Gallbladder Posted: 08-02-06 15:19pm
I've been reading this post and see the
same disturbing story in each. I guess
not everybody takes symptoms as a sign
that something is wrong with the body when
they start. I hear that these symptoms
have been going on for 2 years, 3 years.
Your body has been trying to tell you
something. If you listen to it and heed
it's message you would probably still have
a gallbladder. And contrary to what most
doctors tell you, you do need your
gallbladder to digest fats. You do need
good fats to stay healthy. The symptoms
you will most likely have now are
irritability, moodiness, bloating, gas,
all from not getting the good fats you
need. For anyone interested in healing
naturally visit http://www.Just-for-yo
u-homeremedies.Com. Maybe
i'm the only one that believes it's my
body and I will listen to what it is
telling me. Not the doctor, he or she
doesn't know what is going on outside of
test results on a piece of paper. The
body can heal if we give it the natural
help it needs.

Ruptured Cyst, Abdominal Pain, And Diarrhea Posted: 09-20-06 10:48am
I am 24 years old with an on-going
problem.
I've always had problems with my stomach
after eating, always rushing to the
bathroom.
In 2000, I saw a gastro who diagnosed me
w/ ibs. Gave me pills to slow my
digestion and sent me on my way. As time
passed the pain subsided, and I stopped
taking the medication because it made me
bloated and constipated. I decided to go
along pretending I was fine, and deal w/
the diarrhea.
Now in july 2006, I had a ruptured cyst on
my right ovary. The doctors could not do
anything for me since it had ruptured.
It was painful and very nauseating
whenever I got up from laying down.
After I healed, my stomach was the best
it's ever been. I could eat anything I
wanted. After doing alot of research, I
found out that I had all the classic
symptoms of having an ovarian cyst...The
diarrhea, bloating, cramping. I thought
things were going to be fine for me, back
to normal.
It's now september 2006, and i've
developed abdominal pain below my right
rib. I've been living with the pain for
a week now, seeing doctor after doctor.
Every day it seems like a new symptom
developes and others continue. The
doctors started out with an ultrasound of
my ovaries, to make sure I wasnt having
another ruptured cyst. Everything came
back ok. Blood tests were also normal.
I was referred to a gastro. They issued
another ultrasound, this time of my
gallbladder, and surrounding organs in the
upper right. And a colonosphy is ordered
for next week to check for croh's disease,
a disease my brother is coping with.
I've read all the posts and websites I can
find relating to my issue. Does anyone
have any suggestions on where I should
look next? After reading are
researching, I still think my gallbladder
is to blame. I've only had the
ultrasound, not the gallbladder scan to
check its functionality. Should this be
something I should request from my
doctor??

Update: Ruptured Cyst, Abnormal Pain, And Diarrhea Posted: 09-21-06 22:19pm
I received my gallbladder ultrasound
results...They came back normal, no
stones. Now the dr has ordered a hida
scan to check the % function of my
gallbladder. Hopefully that will hold the
answer. I am still due for my colonosphy
next week.
Will removing the gallbladder make the
pain go away??? I've since lost 5 lbs
within a weeks time. I'm slowly beginning
to eat solid/real food, not just noodles
and toast.

Colonosphy Test Posted: 10-01-06 11:38am
I went thru the terrible ordeal w/ my
colonosphy this past wed. The laxative
medicine prescribed made me horribly sick.
I spent the night before my colonosphy in
the er, where they game me medicine to
keep me from throwing up. The colonsphy
procedure went fine. I dont remember much
about that day. Its taken me several days
to get my bowels back to "normal" whatever
"normal" may be. Fair warning for anyone
having this procedure, the laxative
medication can (in some cases) make you
extrememly sick to your stomach, along
with the diarrhea. The bottle fails to
tell you this information. Be careful.
You can become extremely dehydrated. The
results came back normal. The dr took
some biopsies, which I will hear about in
a week. The pain comes and goes in my
gallbladder area. Im beginning to think
it is more related to stress and ibs, the
more reading I do. Hang in there to
others with this same condition.

I'm 32 and had symptoms for 2 years now..2
trips to the emergency room found nothing.
Everyone wants to call it IBS, but don't
be fooled.
I was on Zelnorm for over a year until
they finally pulled it off the market.
After multiple ultrasounds, a colonoscopy,
endoscopy, upper GI series,
blood tests and CT scan all normal I
finally started doing my own research.
The ER thought the symptoms were
gallstones, but no stones on the
ultrasound so they sent me home with
Prevacid. They didn't bother to tell me
about the HIDA scan and asked if I was
stressed out. Cannot eat spicy food or
fatty food without severe pain in upper
right side. Finally found out about the
HIDA scan and it was abnormal..10%
ejection fraction. One doctor said to
have my gallbladder removed and another
said to do another test (ERCP) which is
riskier than gallbladder surgery...I'm
opting for removing my gall bladder.
Anyone else had success with this? Will
let you know how the surgery goes.
