Hello all.

I am a 35 year-old who has had epilepsy for about 9 years. Dilantin was prescribed immediately upon diagnosis and I have been on it ever since. I have felt that my epilepsy is most likely a mild case for now because I have been able to live life without compromise. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I can honestly say I didn't have a single problem and it seemed like the meds took care of everything.

A couple of weeks ago I made a doctor's appointment because my prescription was running low. I skipped a few non-consecutive doses to try and stretch my meds and started having auras a few days later.

After a couple of days I was fine for about a week. I was on a road trip and once I started the drive (about 1000 miles), the auras started to return. I have had no other episodes since then. I believe my problem is due to a low level of dilantin in my bloodstream, and hope that a blood test will reveal that. Appointment with the doctor is in two days.

With all that in mind....

Is it possible to build a natural resistance to meds over time?
Do epileptic conditions worsen over time?

Any advice and personal experience would be a great help. Thanks!

Dilantin
i am 30yrs old and have had epilepsy for 20yrs, yes your body can form a resistance to med overtime, i have been on many, but the one ,nomatter what , they kept mw on was dilantin, right now i take 400mg -dilantin and 1200mg- neurontin, still have seizures, but yes, even missing one dose can cause your levels to show low and start a reaction to having seizures for several days.
