About 4 months ago I took my girlfriend to a local planned parenthood and got her on birth control (the pill). Im not sure of her prescription but the first month was crazy, she was on her period for like 3 weeks then had a week off and got it again...The next month it was fine, she stopped getting cramps, she said it was lighter, she didnt get sick and it didnt screw her head up but one problem....She got it exactly a week early, so I figured ok the people at planned parenthood said it would be weird for about 3 months but she is on her 4th pak and still got it a week early. Is this normal? Also it is making her face break out really bad. I dont want her to go off it because I dont trust condoms. Also she started it the first day she got her period and began taking the hormone pills, was this right? Ive double checked about the pills and asked the people at planned parenthood but the Dr. Is never there and the nurses are all idiots. So I figure answers from experience will be better than getting jerked around by the people over there, thnx guys

First, she was correct to start the hormone pills on the first day of her period.

When you say her period is a week early, do you mean she starts it when she's on the third week of hormone pills? Normally, your period starts during the week you're on the inactive (placebo) pills. If she starts bleeding before that, it's possible she's experiencing breakthrough bleeding. That's sometimes a side effect of the pill, but it usually stops after the first few months.

As for her face breaking out, I have heard of that happening for some people. If this continues to be a problem for her, she can try a different pill. Your body can react in completely different ways depending on which pill you're taking, so one type could make her break out while another type could help clear her skin. Sometimes you have to try several different types before you find the one you like best :)

Re: Breakout
Don't know whereabouts you're from, but thought i'd let you know there's a brand of the pill available in australia called 'diane'. It's more expensive than the others and there isn't a generic version available (that i'm aware of), but it is magic for acne. Lots of girls here get on it even when they aren't sexually active, because it's such a great side effect! Hope the break through bleeding stops for your friend. In the meantime, chech she's taking the pill at the same time every day, and not vomiting or anything like that. Xo

Ortho lo is supposed to help with acne too, not make it worse... I know mine has gotten loads better.

Also, I think I started taking mine oon the wrong date, but that was 4 months ago. I started the horomone pills the day after my period stopped. But, i'm not pregnant, and I get my period on day 3 or 4 of the sugar pills, so I guess it doesn't matter a whole lot, does it?

i mean she gets it the week before the placebo pills, and hopefully by the next month,(month 5) it wont do that anymore, cause losing that one week is killing me lol, shes taking this cheap brand called ellesse(sp?) from planned parenthood, bargain buy at 36 bucks for a hole year supply lol. But thanks alot for shedding some light on the subject.
